With the Nets focused on bringing free agent big man Shareef Abdur-Rahim to New Jersey, another popular forward could be on his way out.

Free agent Brian Scalabrine reached an agreement in principle to play for the Boston Celtics, according to several league sources.

Don't worry about it too much, the Nets'll match that offer and get him back if they have to.

I'd say good riddance to him. He was terrible last year in the post-season and is too, soft for a player his size. I've been watching him play since he was USC Trojan masquerading as their center. He has not improved since college and has drifted further and further from the post. I know the Nets don't have much size in the frontline and Scalabrine had a few decent games. However, the Nets need some bangers inside not a 3point chucking Power Forward. With Richard Jefferson back next year and Vince Carter, the Nets won't miss Scalabrine taking jumpshots.

I personally like him just because of his character the self proclaimed "the peoples choice". but not his basketball abilities. he had few good nights but his so inconsistent that in every game you will guess how much can he contribute. i also agree with shapecity his game is to soft and i dont like the fact that sometimes he tries to hard to shoot 3's

if ever we loose him that wont leave a big hole in our team. im sure we can sign a better replacement for him.

That guy won't even go in the post if Wade or Eddie Jones was guarding him... I mean, what's up with that guy... seriously.

Can't find another player that soft anywhere else, good job Nets for letting him go to the Celtics.

I doubt that we try to match....Rod Thorn has already said he is prepared to lose Veal Scalabrine. I think Veal was a nice effort player but I think last season he had his chance to prove that he would be apart of this team for the long term...with Rodney Rodgers gone...his minutes and impact was surpose to increase which is what many Nets fans screamed for the two years Rodney was in front of him in the bench rotation. But in my opinion when the opprtunity came Scalabrine failed...he couldnt really guard either the three or four spot consistently........and teams would often hide their weaker or small perimeter defender on him. And he has unable to take advantage of those mis-matches. If his spot up perimeter jumpshot wasnt falling then Scali became a liablity.

Sam Clancy has been putting up some nice production in the Summer League, maybe he replaces his former teammate?

So here is the question since we are letting Scalabrine and Clifford Robinson go who will take their spots. say we do get SAR that leaves Collins (on the bench where he belongs) and Jabari Smith on the bench is there any real quality big man that we can sign for cheap and still produce the 5-10 pts and 5-10 reb consistently day in and day out. They should pick up that starting power forward SAR, Swift, or Marshall. Then they need to look for on good big man to play his role and give fouls when needed.

Then we should keep jabari smith gives him time more time to play and then can move up into the rotation on the bench.

Yeah that's true. We lack depth and talent up front compared to our backcourt, but i think we can settle with any backup that we can sign for the minimum and leave on the IR. SAR is capable of putting up 36+ min. a night, so i wouldn't see a huge impact from whoever backs him up. But of course signing a solid backup couldn't do bad. I guess we'll see how Sam Clancy does. I just hope the Nets don't pull a Darius Rice again.

I'd honestly love to resign Scalabrine, just to give him one more chance. Last season was a hectic environment for everyone, so maybe that had an effect on the players? You never know...

I think they should not have given away Brian. I mean, He was great. When the Nets were down against the Pistons 1 yea ago, In that 3 overtime game, Martin Fouled Out And almost all the starters as well, Brian hit triple after triple To help the Nets win! without him they would have most likely lost! I think they need to be ashamed of themselves!

umm that was the only time besides his 28 points this season that he has really done anythin. He is a waste and im glad he is gone. I doubt he will help the Celtics and he is gettin overpaid either way......by da way who came up with the name Veal and wat the heck does it mean.

I never heard of that and wat does that have to do with his skills. I doubt he really cared that Brian left. You dont see him mad like he was when Martin got traded.
