Veteran Alouette Chiu retires after 13 seasons in CFL

    On the opening day of training camp at Lennoxville, Que., the Montreal Alouettes have already been dealt their first surprise of the season: the retirement of veteran centre Bryan Chiu.

    Chiu, who spent his entire 13-year Canadian Football League career with the Alouettes, came to the decision on Saturday after having his physical examination and while driving to Bishop's University for training camp. Upon his arrival, he notified management of his decision to retire at the age of 35.

    "I don't have it," Chiu said. "My body has been beaten up. I want to go out on top and realize I can't go out and play to the level that I can."
