Edmonton Eskimo Canadian linebacker Javier Glatt calls it a career after eight years in the CFL, the club announced today.

"I am extremely thankful to the Edmonton Eskimos and their loyal fans for allowing me the opportunity to continue living my dream of playing professional football," says the newly retired Glatt. "I have had a blast over the course of my entire eight year CFL career and feel very fortunate to have met so many amazing people along the way and enjoy so many incredible experiences on the football field. I am so grateful to everyone who helped me realize my dream of being a pro football player."

Spending the first seven years of his career with the BC Lions, Glatt joined the Eskimos for the 2010 season as a free agent appearing in all 18 regular season games. The Calgary native recorded 27 defensive tackles, two interceptions, one tackle for loss and one forced fumble. A perennial on special teams, Javier also have five special teams tackles, three kickoff returns for 17 yards and one punt return for 10 yards.

Drafted in the second round (15th overall) in the 2003 CFL Canadian Draft by the BC Lions, Glatt spent his first three seasons as a back-up before earning a starting position at middle linebacker in 2006. That same year, the Lions went all the way to the Grey Cup where Javier had eight defensive tackles as the Lions defeated the Montreal Alouettes 25-14. Javier enjoyed the best season of his career in 2008 when he finished the season with 88 defensive tackles, seven special teams tackles, six tackles for losses, two pass knock downs, two interceptions, two forced fumbles and two quarterback sacks. He was named a West Division All-Star at the conclusion of the '08 campaign.
