Edwards, who also was fined $5,000 for a late hit in the preseason against Seattle, hit Lions quarterback Shaun Hill "in the head area" in the fourth quarter," NFL spokesman Randall Liu said. Offensive lineman Ryan Cook was fined $5,000 for an illegal clip on linebacker Julian Peterson, who was not fined despite a head hit on quarterback Brett Favre. Defensive end Jared Allen was not fined despite his aggressive role in the scrum late in the third quarter that prompted players to leave the sidelines, which is frowned upon in other leagues. Allen, Lions guard Rob Sims and Hill appeared to be tussling in a pile after defensive end Brian Robison sacked Hill. Edwards backed up Allen by shoving Sims to the ground.
