(Jan. 24, 2006) -- Minnesota Vikings coach Brad Childress filled out his coaching staff, hiring linebackers coach Fred Pagac and secondary coach Joe Woods.Pagac coached linebackers at Kansas City last season and in Oakland from 2001-03. Before that, he spent 19 seasons at Ohio State, coaching linebackers from 1982-95 and serving as defensive coordinator from 1996-99, when he coached Vikings cornerback Antoine Winfield."I've had an opportunity to coach against Fred Pagac's linebackers for a lot of years in the Big Ten from when I was with the University of Illinois on," Childress said. "I've had a professional relationship with him for probably 20 years now and I've always admired the toughness and tenacity of his linebackers."Woods was Tampa Bay's defensive quality control coach for the past two seasons, working with current Vikings defensive coordinator Mike Tomlin.</div>ARTICLE

Hmmmmm. Not bad at all. Minnesota may be good next year but they should make sure they draft a back-up quarterback incase Daunte Culpepper is out.

I think they are intending to use Brad Johnson next year, they will probably draft a young guy though for the future. Last I heard, they want Culpepper out of town.

In 3 years Brad Johnson will be in his 40's man, do you really think they are going to use him for that long? They're (YES THE VIKINGS) gonna draft a QB within the next 2 years if they lose Culpepper.

What a reach it is to think that. [IMG] And, nobody said will use Brad that long. Somebody wondered if he had any time left on his contract. And you have yet to show me or anybody who "they" are that don't want Culpepper back.</span>

The Raiders have the No. 6 pick and the Ravens No. 13 in April's draft. Arizona and Miami also could be in the running. Raiders owner Al Davis has an affinity for reclamation projects.Moving Culpepper for at least a first-round draft pick and a bona fide starter would solve the Vikings' quarterback conflict, allowing Brad Johnson, who would be 38, to start in coach Brad Childress' West Coast offense next season. The Vikings then would have to use a first-round pick to draft a QB to develop and sign a veteran backup, perhaps free agent Chris Weinke of the Carolina Panthers and St. Paul. You have to wonder whether Culpepper's recent 45-minute phone conversation with Childress went sour.</div>ARTICLEThe clocks ticking, only time will tell, but it seems like that's whats gonna happen

From the sounds of it the new Coach Brad Childress likes Culpepper so i dont think he is going anywhere plus it would be a mistake to get rid of Culpepper. It was one bad season last year he was almost MVP and lost to Manning because he broke records all year. what we need is a line and better WR and in the draft the vikings will mostly take a Running back because Moore is a 3 down back at all and Williams is Okay has Injuries and O.Smith will be Gone and Bennett has only had 2 good seasons so The Running back would be a great choice unless somehow we get D'Brickenshaw Ferguson or even look in FA, good Prospects leaving teams E.James is a Free Agent even S.Alexander is and J. Lewis So Culpepper will be there for a while hopefully becuase Childress likes QB's like to run look what he did to Philly he can help us Very well

<span style="color:#993399"> Charlie Walters............... [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] I said show me where the VIKINGS said something...not a sports gossip columnist like Charlie Walters.</span><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Quarterback Daunte Culpepper, the subject of trade speculation, isn't saying much these days. But others close to him are weighing in.New Vikings coach Brad Childress said Wednesday that he and Culpepper talk on a weekly basis."You classify rumors as just that, rumors," Childress said Wednesday on "The Drive on Fox" with Chris Myers and Bryan Cox. "There's nobody that knows what Daunte and I talk about except Daunte and I, and I'd like to keep it that way."Childress said Culpepper's status as the Vikings' No. 1 quarterback has not changed."I said in my opening comments... he's a franchise quarterback, and I don't believe a guy loses his position based on injury," Childress said. "So the first thing is, he doesn't need to be injured anymore. He's got to rehab. He's got control over that. I don't have control over that."</div>Twincities.com
