<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>DOSS TO VIKINGSAdam Schefter of NFL Network reports that free-agent safety Mike Doss signed a one-year, $1 million contract on Tuesday night with the Minnesota Vikings.Doss likely will be penciled in as the starting strong safety in Minnesota's Tampa 2 defense, which is the same scheme that the Colts use. He'll be paired with veteran Darren Sharper. The former Ohio State standout is the fourth member of the Colts' defense to leave in the wake of the team's Super Bowl XLI victory. Cornerback Nick Harper signed with the Titans and weakside linebacker Cato June joined the Bucs. Defensive tackle Montae Reagor was released, and signed with the Eagles. On offense, receiver Brandon Stokley was released. He later signed with the Broncos.Surprisingly, however, none of the Colts free agents were able to parlay their Super Bowl pedigrees into huge paydays. In past years, teams were more likely to overpay members of the Super Bowl champion, largely for the "sizzle" factor that comes from saying, "We might never win a Super Bowl of our own, but at least one of our players recently has."</div>I like the signing but this probably means no landry for the vikings. We now have Sharper, Dwight Smith, Tank Williams, Greg Blue, and Mike Doss competing for the 2 safety spots. I'm guessing that one gets converted to CB by TC end (dwight smith?)
I wouldn't completely count out Landry. This is a one-year deal to a guy who's coming off of a big injury. Tank Williams is no lock to make the roster, and Dwight Smith is looking like he'll be cut. That leaves you with Blue and the aging Sharper.
I wouldn't read too much into it. He had a great year 2 or 3 years ago, but has been rather mediocre since. So much so that he was benched before last year and only started 4 weeks because Bob Sanders had gotten injured. Not to mention Doss is coming off of an ACL-Tear himself. I wouldn't rule out Landry either, because I'm not convinced Williams, Smith, or Doss are locks to make the Final Roster either.
