Baker has told at least two NBA players that his goal would be to join the Knicks if he is released by the Celtics. The Knicks have refused to comment on Baker's status. The 6-10 forward is a low-post scoring presence the Knicks covet, but his troubles off the court make him a risky investment. </div> Link
Vin Baker....what a loss. I wish he had cleaned up his act. The Knicks seem to be getting some strange acquisitions. Now there'll be two veteran centers. I'd hate to see Vin Baker stay after this season if Mutombo goes, unless of course you get an awesome center in the draft.
No way would I risk signing Vin Baker. This guy has blown his NBA opportunities so many times, and he has been the biggest disappointment in the NBA as a player. This guy is an alcoholic, he needs help...and to even waste millions of dollars on this guy is just a complete waste of time.
I think that if Vin Baker could find away to stay clean off the court he would be an excellent addition to the Knicks as a backup to Kurt Thomas & even Dikembe. And if Vin Bakers on court production is still at the level that it was early in the season, then the Knicks now have to frontcourt bigmen who can easily score in double figures every night come playoff time. They could have a front court lineup of Van Horn-Thomas-Baker coming down the stretch of playoff games. And if you combine that with Allan & Steph then the Knicks become just as scary as any team in the east. But Vin Baker has to be willing to focus on basketball & fight the off court demons. But when the demons are the pressures of substance abuse that isnt easy to do.
Vin Baker might be a good signing for the Knicks, at a reasonable price. His play early in the season has looked good and if Wilkens can find a place for him, it'll be good.
