I used to love Vin Baker's game. He is making $36m I think over 2 more years. If we pick him up in 48 hours we would have to pay him that money, but if it goes past that we could sign him to a realistic contract. Vin Baker was doing well this season. He was averaging 11.3 pts 5.7reb .6blks at only 27mins FG 50% 1.5ast. He just had a slip up in his alcoholism. Mullin was an alcoholic and we kept him around. What do you think?
I wouldn't take the risk with Baker. He has been one of the most dissappointing players of this season. With such a huge contract he was expected to deliver, which he did not. I have always liked the guy, especially in his prime but I don't think he is worth the risk.
I would do anything to get Paul Pierce or Jason Kidd/Gary Payton back to Oakland. We need some hometown heros. Well maybe not the Glove so much since he's showing signs of age.
I thought he got waived, doesn't that mean that boston doesn't have to pay for his slary anymore and he could go to any team that wants him now.
From my understanding, he was waived because there was a clause in his contract saying that if he missed 10 games from his condition, the Celtics can terminate his contract.
If he comes at a reasonable price, I say the Warriors should sign him. He can provide some quality rebounding and teach the Warriors' young players how to play. However, Golden State has got to be careful as he might just turn into another Eddie Griffin and his history might come back to haunt him.

Baker has proven in that he cannot restrict his drinking urge, something that Chris Mullin was able to do. The only thing these two have in common is that they were addicts, nothing else.

Sorry I've been kind of zipping through posts left and right and watching the nba allstar weekend show.
He is too much of a risk, and might even be a distraction in GS....plus with Murphy and Dampier, and even Foyle, where would he get minutes?
even Crobb....talking about teaching the younger players...i'd rather have crobb than vin baker anyday.
My thing is if we could sign him to a 1 year contract that would be great. If we trade Damp he could get some quality minutes either starting or behind Foyle. Baker is not known for his rebounds, but more for his scoring. And he was having a good year up until recently. I dont think he missed games because of the alcohol. He missed the games because the Celtics were tired of paying him big bucks and him not being a superstar so they sat him for 10 games. That brought up the clause and it was an easy and pain free way to dump his contracts. If only every other team in the NBA had clauses like that in their big contracts. I say pick him up for a 1 year contract or nothing.

Bartender: "Hey, wait a minute, Vin I recognize you." Vin: "No, you don't".
