<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">MIAMI - The last time Vince Carter visited South Beach, he got all the revenge the Nets could ever want on Alonzo Mourning, embarrassing the Heat center with a vicious slam.
Carter scored 32 points in a loss to the Heat on Nov. 7 and put on such a spectacular dunk show that he was a regular on highlight shows for an entire week. Now he returns to Miami tonight playing his best basketball of the season, scoring 30-plus points in three of his last four games. Mourning, who missed the Heat's last game with an upper respiratory illness, may want to avoid Carter this time.

"I am feeling comfortable," Carter said after he scored 32 points in a win at Orlando. "A big reason is I am attacking early. I am trying to jump-start myself."

What Carter has done is deliver a thunderbolt-sized jolt to the Nets' offense. Carter is averaging 31.5 points in his last four games and is definitely in attack mode. That never more was in evident than in Orlando on Wednesday night, when he took just one three-pointer out of his 21 shot attempts and went to the free-throw line 14 times, making all of his foul shots.

Carter was extremely aggressive the last time he saw the Heat, planting his most memorable dunk as a Net on Mourning when he took off from the right side, rose, cocked his right arm back and waited for Mourning to leap and descend before dunking on the former Net center.

The Nets, riding a four-game winning streak, wouldn't mind seeing a repeat of that after Mourning was quoted in Sports Illustrated as saying he thought the Nets played him excessively early last season in an attempt to have him suffer an injury. Mourning suggested the Nets wanted to take him off their salary cap for the following season.

The Nets, who have vehemently denied the accusation, will have more than Mourning to deal with this time. They will see Shaquille O'Neal for the first time this season, and Pat Riley will be coaching Miami in place of the departed Stan Van Gundy.

One Net looking forward to battling Shaq is Marc Jackson. The Nets' reserve center may see plenty of O'Neal if Jason Collins' right ankle keeps him out of the game. Collins played just five minutes against Orlando.

"Shaq is my favorite person to play against," Jackson said. "I prefer to play against him 82 games than (anybody) else. I feel as though I'm a warrior and I'm a soldier. He's the same way."</div>

If he does, I swear I will cry of joy. It would be an incredible highlight.

I'm rooting for the Heat. The Nets are getting a little too close for comfort. They are right behind the Sixers. Not good.
