Vipers Stay Undefeated in Win over Austin

    Extending the undefeated record to 6-0, the Rio Grande Valley Vipers (6-0) defeat the Austin Spurs (2-2) 134-99 on Wednesday night at Bert Ogden Arena.

    Despite the Vipers being outscored 23-25 in the first frame of the game, RGV turned it around to go into the half 62-47. Three starters for RGV scored in double figures at the half with Trevelin Queen paving the way with 18 points. Mfiondu Kabengele scored 17 points, seven rebounds and Houston Rockets two-way player scored 12 points. Damyean Dotson recorded 13 points for the Spurs.

    The Vipers went into the third quarter earning the biggest lead with 31 points. Both Queen and Kabengele hit 20+ points each while Kabengele recorded a double-double with 10 rebounds. Rockets assignee Josh Christopher also recorded a double-double with 13 points, 10 assists while also adding seven rebounds.

    In the fourth frame, RGV earned the biggest lead in the game over the Spurs with 38 points.

    Kabengele finished the night with 23 points, 10 rebounds and three assists. Christopher fell short of a triple-double with 15 points, seven rebounds and 11 assists. Rockets assignee Usman Garuba also tallied 10 rebounds while dishing out two assists and getting three steals. Queen totaled 27 points for the fifth game in a row while adding four rebounds, four assists and five steals for the night.

    Christopher's 10 assists surpassed the Vipers season-high in assists. In addition, both Queen and Nix both tie the season-high of field goals made (10).

    Four starters for the Spurs hit double digits led by Dotson (19 pts, 6 reb). San Antonio two-way player Devontae Cacok scored 17 points, seven rebounds, two assists and five steals. From off the bench, Aric Holman recorded 12 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three blocks.

    RGV scored the highest points in a single-game thus far at 134 while also hitting other records; 50 field goals made (52.6% FG), 32 assists and 20 steals.
