Virginia leads 67-39 with a little over 15 minutes left in the game.

I can't believe I actually picked Gonzaga to win this one. [IMG]

I bet the Zags can't wait until conference play starts, playing at the Kennel would be good for them too [IMG]

Virginia hit 18 threes. The Zags are playing terrible but there's not a whole lot you can do when a team has shots falling like that.

[IMG] The ESPN commentators were like 'see, you've got to man up on Singleterry and get a hand in his face, yada yada. But he was shooting from 30+ feet and nailing 'em - I don't know how much you're going to do to stop a guy who's that hot. Sucks for Zaga, but they ran into a buzzsaw. I hope this doesn't hurt them come Selection Sunday, because you know how the Committee loves to favor eastern schools that get a quality win against west coast foes [IMG]

Oh, come on now. Don't chalk it up to bias if Gonzaga doesn't get in. They've been beaten by pretty much every good team that's been put in their path except for UNC. Even some less than amazing opponents they've faced have knocked them off, like Washington State and Georgia. Aside from a game against a very unorganized and overrated Memphis team later in the year, they won't have another chance to prove themselves against a high-major team. They had their chances, and they blew them for the most part. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if they weren't picked as an at-large team.

I know how it feels to see your team lose to a player who's just unconscious though. It reminds me of Michigan State's game against Illinois last season where Dee Brown was throwing it in the basket over his shoulder, falling out of bounds, and from the half-court line. Sometimes players just get in a zone, get confident, and start making all sorts of shots, whether they're contested or not. Virginia does deserve a lot of credit for this game though. It really frustrates me being a fan sometimes, because pretty much everyone on JBB saw Virginia coming when the season started. It didn't shock that many of us when they beat Arizona, and most of our poll voters have ranked them throughout the season, yet the national media still acts as if this was the upset of the century, and is still sleeping on Virginia. As fans, we shouldn't know more than the 'experts.'

Very similar to Dee Brown on the Illinois team I referrence though, the Cavaliers rely on Singletary probably a little too much. He tries to take the team on his back and do everything for them, not getting Reynolds and Diane enough open looks, even though they're more than capable of the same sort of productivity. That's why they lost to teams like Appalachian State and Utah. It's ironic. He's the reason they're occassionally so great, yet he's also the reason they occassionally struggle.
