The Heat have been shedding cap space in an effort to possibly land LeBron James and Chris Bosh in addition to re-signing Dwyane Wade. And Wade reportedly thinks such a dynamic trio is possible. From Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel: "A source close to Wade said the Heat guard believes his team is poised to pull off a free-agency coup of landing himself, James and Bosh. However that same source, as well as a party inside the league, told the Sun Sentinel that Wade also plans to cover himself during the initial days of the free-agency negotiating period by scheduling interviews with the New York Knicks, Chicago Bulls, and, in somewhat of a surprise, the Dallas Mavericks." We stress that this in no way means this trio is headed to South Beach, even though it's a certainly within the realm of possibility as free agency hits on Thursday. "His team is poised to pull off" is a lot different than "Wade knows it's going to happen beyond a shadow of a doubt." The Bulls are also poised for such a coup with James and Bosh, and though in recent days the Knicks' odds of landing James seem to be dropping, they have cap space to add both players as well. Bottom line: We're hearing a lot of reports about possible additions to teams as free agency looms on Thursday, ones that make a fair amount of sense. But there's still a lot of things in flux right now, things that will be sorted out and will become definitive quite soon. Source: Sun Sentinel
It's my hope. MIA probably wants future picks from us for the former #2, and we want future picks from them for taking on 10M in salary obligations and letting them get 3 max FA's...but if not then MIA has to gamble that either TOR or CLE will take back Beasley in an S&T. Portland's offer expires Tuesday 3pm EST, from what Story tells me about league rules. Is Riley really going to gamble 3FAs away just for Beasley, or will he take the sure savings now?
I think we are in the drivers seat. Them potentially getting three max free agents is the big ticket; if they think they have a chance for that the Beasley trade shouldn't and won't stand in their way; if they don't think so then there is no reason for the trade. barfo
I wouldn't call us "driver's seat". I think we have a shot, but if we're sticklers for things like cash or future picks, MIA will just wait until the 8th and deal Beasley to WAS or SAC or OKC or anyone with space for free, and not have to worry about having Gomes' 1M on the books for the next couple of years.
http://www.blogabull.com James is also going to sit down with the Nets, Knicks, etc. This just makes it seem like he is exploring all options, rather than siding with the original article.
They can wait, but they can't be assured that anything else will come up, or that if it does, the other teams won't hold them up more, given the urgency by then to conclude a deal. And they can be assured that the Gomes deal will no longer be available to them after the 30th. So yes, driver's seat is an exaggeration, but we could be in position to offer them something valuable. barfo
