NEW YORK (CP) - Phoenix Suns guard Steve Nash of Victoria has been named the NBA's Western Conference player of the week and Gerald Wallace of the Charlotte Bobcats was chosen the top player in the Eastern Conference.

Wallace averaged 22.3 points, 9.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists while shooting 58.7 per cent per game in a 2-1 week for the Bobcats.

Wallace scored 26 points, grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds and made a season-high five blocks in a 100-82 victory over Washington on Saturday.</div>

Gerald, when he's played, has really been huge for the Bobcats this season. He's really improved his shot, and he continues to hustle on the defensive end. Wallace leads the league in steals at 2.66 per game and is averaging 1.75 blocks per game.

I'm really happy the Bobcats locked up Wallace for the next couple seasons. And I hope he remains with the team even after. He's going to be a key part of this franchise for years to come.
