Wally Szczerbiak, taking advantage of Latrell Sprewell's absence, put up 25 points and eight rebounds in 32 minutes against the Pacers on Saturday. He converted seven of his 16 shot attempts and all 10 of his free throws. Courtesy of Yahoo Sports Not surprising, IMO.
as tough as the competition in the starting 5 is' the better the team will get every player gonna be more competitive to get the highest he can get in the team's roster including sprewell he aint gonna sit quiet no one will and it's going to get nastier but everything as to know it's limit-don't let it bother and disturb the mind of the main goal wifh is championship! go wally keep on going!
If we don't trade him yet, he will be starting by the end of the season. Hassell is good, but lacks offense. What Wally lacks in defense, he makes up for in shooting. If he keeps playing like this in pre-season he might have it by opening night. Pure

I believe Hassel not getting his number called often doesn't mean he "lacks offense". And Wally's shooting (as good as it is) certainly won't make up for Hassel's defense. TH comes in every night and defends the leagues biggest stars, and successfully shuts them down. Im uncertain at the moment of what will happen because as good as Wally is, if he achieves a starting role it will limit Hassel / Sprewell minutes. Its important to effectively manage the minutes to keep all egos on the same page.. the championship is the number 1 objective keep in mind. P.S Hassel can hit the open J, i think his defense is so spectacular that it shadows his offense. I don't know what the all defensive team voters were thinking.
Yeah, I guess you are right Spree, and defense is more valuable in the NBA today. The league is filled with scorers, but few real defensive stoppers. Artest, Bowen, and Hassell come to mind. So I guess your right, Wally's offense doesn't make up for Hassell's defense.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Spree:</div><div class="quote_post">Im uncertain at the moment of what will happen because as good as Wally is, if he achieves a starting role it will limit Hassel / Sprewell minutes..</div> Most defensive specialsts (other than Wallace, Christie, and Bowen) play limited minutes, so Hassel would still be serving his purpose. As streaky as Spree was last year, he might be a better fit as an offensive spark off the bench.
well, i have always been a fan of wally's offence, but not his heart or defence. yet, this bodes well because we now have another deadly scorer, giving us more options. And Hassell's offensive abilites are decent , he should start over wally, because he is one of the few who can contain superstar wing players like VC or Kobe. thats my 2 cents on the subject.

However i think bringing him off the bench isn't the best option (seeings how he loves to play and tends to over-play himself when coming off the bench as we saw in 98-99 in NY). I would keep him as a starter, however like you said i would definately limit his minutes. Flip said he would limit his minutes and have him ready for 4th quaters so he could be more effective. The dude can perform with the best of them but hes 34 so its good to keep some fuel in the tank.
I agree with "Spree", Latrell off the bench wouldn't work out to well. I agree he is very streaky, but everyone is. He is better than Wally, there is nothing to it. It is true, he would be a great offensive spark, but people underrate his defense, he has some crafty veteran moves.
