North Korea has successfully produced a miniaturized nuclear warhead that can fit inside its missiles, crossing a key threshold on the path to becoming a full-fledged nuclear power, U.S. intelligence officials have concluded in a confidential assessment.

The new analysis completed last month by the Defense Intelligence Agency comes on the heels of another intelligence assessment that sharply raises the official estimate for the total number of bombs in the communist country’s atomic arsenal. The U.S. calculated last month that up to 60 nuclear weapons are now controlled by North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. Some independent experts believe the number of bombs is much smaller.

The findings are likely to deepen concerns about an evolving North Korean military threat that appears to be advancing far more rapidly than many experts had predicted. U.S. officials last month concluded that Pyongyang is also outpacing expectations in its effort to build an intercontinental ballistic missile capable of striking cities on the American mainland.

While more than a decade has passed since North Korea’s first nuclear detonation, many analysts believed it would be years before the country’s weapons scientists could design a compact warhead that could be delivered by missile to distant targets. But the new assessment, a summary document dated July 28, concludes that this critical milestone has already been reached.

China or Russia has to be helping North Korea, just too many sudden technological breakthroughs.

Well now we get to see if Trump and his gang are up to the job. I would find it unacceptable to live under the treat of attack from NK.

    We need to do the following ASP;

    1. Maximum effort into a plan with Japan and S. Korea to cause the North K. government to fail, effecting regime change.
    2. Put a Sea based ABMS in place ASP. Shoot down every thing they put up from now forward.
    3. Begins installation of ABMS systems on Kiska, UnAlaska and either the South Queen Charlotte Is or Northern Vancouver Island. All are pretty much on the great circle route from Korea to the US. This would give the ABMM two or more shots on the ascend and two more on the in coming descending war head(s). I would not want to rely on a sea based system alone in the North Pacific. It is too vulnerable to being temporarily unable to perform due to natural environment, wind, sea, fog, and ice.
    4. Time is wasting. But we can't just take out their capability unless it is fool proof with the possibility of 10 to 15 million in Seoul dying the first day.

Take note. We are now face to face with the problem. Obama ignored it for eight years.

I read a few weeks back that Iran has been helping N Korea out with technology....It's not as if all arms dealers are playing by the rules or ever have.

Been saying that is a strong possibility all along. Lots of motivation for them to do so.

I just don't believe this. Every year around this time they say North Korea is always up to something. I remember years back when they said they could launch a missile that would hit the west coast. Nothing yet. North Korea is a very poor country and this is nothing but fear mongering to me by the media until I actually see something happen. It's all a fucking circus show until then

Well the most fire and fury and power I can think of that the world has ever seen was Nagasaki and Hiroshima, so what is he saying? More threats and we will nuke you?

That was my first thought. I'm honestly not sure how to interpret it any other way, if we're to take him literally.

China will continue to prop up North Korea, they don't want a unified Korea and they don't want refugees if North Korea falls.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who went... "WTF?!? Are we going to war with them???" They tell us not to take his tweets literally so I don't know. It makes it very difficult to have confidence in a person who is constantly proven to be lying about everything (and nothing).

Well this wasn't even a tweet. It was public comments to the press. So, yeah.... i dunno what to make of that.

    Hello darkness, my old friend
I don't think he was really trying to make a historically precise statement. I think he was aiming for "as tough as possible" rhetoric and that sounded good.

That said, do I think he views nuclear attacks as on the table? Definitely...though that's not saying much. Every President would say it's theoretically on the table. If North Korea did manage to deliver a nuclear warhead into the US, I think that's a situation where every President would seriously consider retaliating with nuclear weapons.

In response to Trump's "fire and fury" comments earlier, NK is now saying they're reviewing plans to preemptively strike the US territory of Guam. Not only does Guam have a couple of large military bases, they also have over 150k civilians so any attack would be catastrophic. Someone (preferably an adult) in Washington needs to de-escalate this bullshit fast.
