Warren was my 3rd grade basketball coach. He was half deaf and had a speech impediment. He led us to a 2-8 season. Heck of a nice guy and I later learned Warren was in his mid-20's, lived with his parents and had not played basketball since grade school. He basically needed the $75 coaching salary - season.

However, reading Nate's post-game comments last night, made me realize that Warren was a basketball genius. For reals! His play calling was similar to Nate's, pass-pass-shoot and get this, he told me the EXACT same thing in the 3rd grade, that our amazing Blazer coach said in the below quote!! Warren, sorry for not giving you your due, and missing that open, no look, reverse layup against Ed O's Cubs. Ed played dirty ball and grabbed jersey...

"“You’ve got to play with confidence,”(Cardinals) Portland head coach Nate McMillan (Warren) said. “We’re getting open looks and we’re not knocking down shots. You’ve got to take care of the ball, you’ve got to defend the ball and you’ve got to score in this (3rd grade) league.”"
