<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">By all accounts, second-year forwards Lawrence Roberts and Hakim Warrick share the second annual Don Poier "Pride of Training Camp" Award.

Shane Battier was the inaugural recipient in 2005, earning an honor not sanctioned by the team but is intended to recognize consistency and growth.

An unscientific poll conducted Tuesday before the Griz played the Chicago Bulls revealed that teammates and coaches were routinely impressed by Warrick's work ethic and all-around improvement, and Roberts' approach behind closed doors and rebounding prowess in games.

"The guy who would have been it is Brian Cardinal if he hadn't got hurt," Griz coach Mike Fratello said before lauding Warrick. "Hak has been pretty consistent."

In five exhibition games, Warrick averaged 12 points on 49-percent shooting, six rebounds and 29.2 minutes. He's displayed a better grasp of the concepts and proved his summer workouts with Denver's Carmelo Anthony paid off.

"He's grown a lot," swingman Mike Miller said. "He's shooting it a lot better. He's shown an ability to get to the hoop and score. I like the job he's done. He's starting to figure it out. Between year one and year two, you like to see a jump. Between year two and three is probably when you make your biggest jump. So we'll see what happens with him. But I like what he's doing."

Roberts, perhaps in Battier's mold, operated under the radar with a steady, hard-hat effort.

Only Roberts has been a better rebounder than Warrick. Roberts entered the game against Chicago as the team leader on the glass with averages of 7.2 rebounds in 25.2 minutes spanning six games.

"I like Lawrence because Lawrence has been rebounding his butt off," guard Damon Stoudamire said. "And he goes about it in a quiet way. You never talk about him, but he's always going to get seven or eight boards."

Battier tried to deflect attention from himself last season. He nominated Roberts.

"He's the type of guy Don would have enjoyed calling (games about)," Battier said at the time. "He would have been proud to have Lawrence on this team." </div>
