Hopefully the Warriors will be taking notes on how a former run'n'gun team makes the transition to a team that plays enough effective defense to rise to an "elite" status team.
Remember how Dampier always played well against Indiana, his former team? He is out to do the same thing against us, getting 7 rebounds and 2 blocks in 7 mins...
Our starters can match Dallas' starters. Only problem is that their bench is too deep for our bench to match...
I think our biggest defensive problems rely on not having a true center and the 2nd is definitely Murphy. Murphy plays the worst help defense I've ever seen. He's got so many other Warrior players in foul trouble because they've had to come help out or prevent the basket. Then our bench isn't much better with Biedrins jumping at every pump fake and Zarko getting bounced around. Then guys like Foyle, Murphy, Ike or whoever just get torched in transition or the guards aren't getting back in time. I think this whole lack of a solid starters that can't play defense is leading to other Warriors not wanting to play the team D, especially if it means fouls and more fatigue on the guys that actually do want to play D. Big men are supposed to set the tone for the elite teams, but I guess we can't do this overnight.
Fisher wtf?? He passes up a wide open 3 point shot to feed inside to nowhere. It fuels a score going the other way. doh!
Bob Fitz said it, "the biggest win of the year!" We got to see why J-Rich/Baron are the quite possibly the top backcourt tandem in the league...what a show. Tomorrow, I'd like to see Dunleavy do something (I think I say this every time...). Again, the rotation of Ike starting and Foyle finishing worked out great as Foyle got that huge block which propelled the W's to the win. I'm very happy.
Huge night for Davis, Richardson, Murphy and Foyle. Davis and Richardson scored total 66 pts together. Davis made game winning basket and season high 34 pts, while Richardson scored 16 pts in 4th quarter. Murphy contributed 18/14 and we outrebounded Dallas, which doesn't happen very often. Foyle also came out with huge 3 blocks in 4th quarters, providing much needed inside defense presence. We still gave up 109 pts with 50% fg, but at least for last two games, we came out with Ws...
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Kensaku:</div><div class="quote_post">Bob Fitz said it, "the biggest win of the year!"</div> Most definitely. Not only have we finally beaten an elite team and on the road but we did it while in the team's biggest slump since Baorn arrived last season. Hopefully this win gives the W's a high throughout the rest of the road trip.
I wanted to mention the put back dunk by Diogu off the Dunleavy missed free throw...that really helped the W's stay in the game. Overall, a very impressive and surprising rebounding game by the W's. Hopefully they can carry the same intensity throughout the road trip and the entire season. We need the bench to step it up a little more and I expect to see some minutes from Cabarkapa and Biendrins tomorrow, as well as some Aaron Miles (The W's Numba 1 Cheerleader!!!!1111oneeleven) in the first half to give Baron some energy for the second half.
So, the guys over on the Mavericks forum are saying Foyle fouled Dirk on that last dunk attempt. I didn't see it, or at least, it was too close to call. Perhaps Foyle did get lucky with the no-call...well, I have to say, about time. Do you know how many times he's gotten bogus calls for making clean blocks? In fact, he got called on that Stackhouse block that got Monty all fired up, so I'd say that was sweet redemption to get the no call.
