Well, I would be angry if we are in a PO run. But, since we are in an Oden run, Nelson probably made the best tanking job by handing Wiz a W. Still, Wiz got a huge hometown break from refs. I mean, when was the last time that refs handed technical foul at the last moment, especially when that T will decide the game? In normal situation, you probably have to physically attack refs to get T at that moment. Ah well, we are going down fast like a rock, and with some luck, we may actually end the season with 26-56...

Since when at any point of the game would a ref allow players and coaches to use profanity against the Refs? Just because it was the last tenth of a second in the game, doesn't mean the players and coaches are allowed to do whatever they want like scream at the refs or do some Rasheed Wallace stupid act.

Refs are just out to get us. No respect by the league man. Biedrins is leading the league in fouls when he's doing the same things other big men are doing. If you ever catch any of the warrior games they call hand check fouls on Andris and when we have the ball we get hacked theres no whistle. Same thing when other teams come to play. You hear a scream and then theres an automatic whistle. A game earlier this year Baron got called for a tiny hand check and the next play down (i forgot which team), Baron literally got ran into when the ball was thrown in and there was no whistle!

And, do you honestly believe that refs always hand out T's whenever coaches or players used profanity to them? Or handed out Ts at the very last moment (game deciding T's to boot) just because coaches screamed at them? Like they never saw coaches doing that to them before? Heck, we can even hear profanities to refs through TV broadcasts, and many times they let those slide. And this really is the first time I saw refs handing out Ts to decide the game. Also, do you think this is the first time Nelson used profanity at the very last minute like today in his God-knows-how-long in his coaching career? Or would Wiz receive the call if they weren't at home? The fact is that Wiz got the call, which will not be called 99 out 100 times...

Well, I haven't heard profanities to refs through the TV broadcasts, if you can give me some examples, then I'll look it towards your way.

Well, you gotta look at the fact that Don Nelson was arguing with the officials for about 5 minutes there.

Its one thing for the refs to let Washington tie the game, I can accept that even though its an unwritten rule of NBA refereeing that you let them play in the final seconds, its still fine if there was really contact there (I don't know if there was it wasn't on TV over here). The fact that the refs also decided to call a T and let the Wiz win the game by hitting FTs and not actually playing basketball is ridiculous though. Theres profanities used all the time (if you don't believe me turn up the volume of your TV next time Kobe Bryant is on TV), to call one there is just nuts, refs usually turn a blind eye when someone has legit reason to lose control of their emotions but not this time apparently, when it was a game winning situation. The call may have been technically right but considering that the refs rarely call the game by the rules its just an odd time to start calling those types of calls.

I don't get it; in your earlier post, you said:

<div class="quote_poster">Will637 Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">...The technical was bull in my opinion, unless Nelson may have said some harsh words or anything, but he wasn't acting crazy or anything.</div>

At first you said it was bull, but now you are saying it makes sense? Since when have you determined that profanity was used?

I dunno, but IMO you plain just DO NOT give technicals like that at the end of a game unless it is a no-brainer, like a coach getting face to face and making chest contact or something, but from what I understand it was dubious.

The foul is fine -- bt the T was crap. It should have gone to OT.

But who cares? GS is one step closer to a better draft pick. At this point, I don't even give a crap about half this roster anyways. Let's pray for a helluva offseason!

    I posted it before...

    <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The Golden State Warriors clearly were not pleased about the way they lost to the Wizards yesterday afternoon at Verizon Center.

Moments after Gilbert Arenas clinched the 107-106 win by making three free throws, including one that was the result of a technical foul assessed to Golden State Coach Don Nelson, Golden State General Manager Rod Higgins met referees Tony Brothers, Derrick Stafford and Jason Phillips in the tunnel leading to the locker room.

Stafford had hit Nelson with a technical after Nelson used profanity to dispute a call Brothers made in the closing seconds. With Golden State nursing a two-point lead with 2.9 seconds remaining, Brothers called a foul on guard Mickael Pietrus, who was defending a driving Arenas. "That's [expletive]," Higgins yelled. "A technical?"

    Stafford cut Higgins off.</div>

I think that settles it. The foul on Pietrus was clear contact drew by Arenas with 0.2 seconds left, so I don't think the Warriors got robbed.</div>

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">"It was bizarre," Arenas said. "You've got to thank the refs for that one."....

"It's just unfortunate that the refs made a very, very, very bad call," Al Harrington said. "I don't know if I'm going to get fined for that, but that was just an awful call. Pretty much I really don't mind the (personal) foul, because if it's a foul and he makes two free throws, we're playing an extra five minutes. But the technical was just ridiculous because now you just take the game completely away from us."</div>

That about sums it up IMO. The refs literally decided the game, it wouldn't have been a big deal if they gave Gil the 2 FTs and let the teams play 5 more minutes but to essentially give the game to the Wizards was just bull.

Doesn't settle it for me, lol. That technical was plain bull-sh!t, any way you cut it (oops, profanity).

1)The foul wasnt' clear contact, it was dubious

2)A technical at that point in the game is ludicrous, unless the violation was obvious, like physical contact with the ref, throwing the ball in the stands, assaulting a player, etc.

I'll bet you all ten players on the court and every coach on the bench for both teams had uttered an expletive at some point in the last 30 seconds of that game. I was courtside last week between GS and the Clips, and let me tell you there was more profanity going on there than at and Andrew Dice Clay concert.

Even the refs let a curse word slip at times.

No, a technical at that point of the game is sh!t. Not only was the foul a bad call, but the technical was a HORRIBLE call. It took the game away from the players and gave it to the Wizards.

I mean, I don't really care because the Wizards are crap and the Warriors are horrible too. It's not about the game, it's really about the call. That could have been a WNBA game and I still would have fallen out of my chair.

Everyone affiliated with the NBA doesn't give a crap about the Warriors. This includes the refs. The refs have been bad all year. It can easily be argued that the refs have given more than just this game away to the opponent in the Warriors' case. Obviously this one takes the cake as the most apparent and obvious one. I personally would like to see great change in how games are officiated, not just from a Warriors' fan perspective but as a basketball observer. I find it difficult to watch the Spurs, Lakers, or Heat on national TV every time just to watch the referees look horrible. Unsurprisingly this game was also a national televised game on NBA TV which equates to horrible refs. Also drawing fouls just sounds dumb. I agree with Jim Barnett when he says if the offensive player creates contact with the defender then there is no foul on the defender (period).

Right now my expectations of the refs are declining as much as my expectations for the Warriors. Fortunately March Madness is starting soon. I will root for the 49ers if they make it. [IMG] Mike Montgomery's alma mater.

The picture obviously shows contact that altered the shot. Was the T a bad call? Hell yeah, but the foul wasn't.

Nelson is a smart man, he was stupid to argue the call, though.

Even though you are right, how many times have you seen a ref swallow his whistle when there is no time left on the clock? There have been several times when we have had contact on the last shot to try to get the bucket or a foul and the refs did not make a call. Baron gets hacked all the time in the lane with no call harder than that bump on Arenas. Oh well. I dont care anymore. We might as well blow up this team and distribute our players amongs every team available and no longer have the Warriors as an NBA team...

That picture cleared up one thing for me. That there was time left when the foul occurred.

But it wasn't Pietrus making contact with Arenas. It was Arenas jumping into Pietrus. What's wacky is in the NBA, they give that call to the offensive player all the time. If you're guarding Dwyane Wade, you don't even have to jump nor make contact to get called for the foul.

Thus, MP should not have leaped in the air when he was that close to Arenas and makes it a dumb play on his part. Then you give the refs a chance to call a foul on you if the offensive players leaps into you.

Arenas gets two FTs and this game should've gone into OT.

The technical was bull in my opinion, unless Nelson may have said some harsh words or anything, but he wasn't acting crazy or anything.

Al Harrington could've purposely missed it, but the Wizards still had the timeout, which could bring them up to halfcourt down by 1...</div>

Will637, GA leaped into Pietrus and not the other way around. Then Arenas fell to the floor afterwards. The foul call wasn't made until 3 seconds after the game ended. It shouldn't have been called as it isn't in most instances, but because the ref judged it to be more than incidental contact, he decided to call it.

Also, the ref must've thought it occurred PRIOR to the end of the game with less than 1 second left which makes it even more IFFY. The picture posted above shows clearly there was time left, so there is no question that he got that part right.

I agree with you but just as a hypothetical question, do you think the officials call that if its the same situation but its Pietrus taking the shot and being contested by Arenas? Would anyone on the Warriors get that call in that situation? I really doubt it.
