I'm not doing a game preview because I'm lazy and the first quarter is already over. Dunleavy split 2 defenders and layed in an And-1 over Chris Andersen for what I WAS GOING to call the best play I've seen him make, but just now he exploded down the lane for a Dr. J esqe dunk in traffic! And the team is shooting 60%. This is like bizarro Warriors.
This is like the same old warriors who've never played defense, but at least we're scoring. Man and then Mickael Pietrus just don't know the rules in the nba. He just gave up foul before the ball was inbounded to give posession + free throw to the other team.
Good to see Dun fired up! That ref made a bad call. He made several bad calls tonight. What a dumb rookie ref.
WTF is with these refs!!!! Un-fuggin believable...just give them the frickin game why dont you! Horrible call after horrible call the last 2 minutes..we cant get any breaks
Unbelieveable, totally blew the calls, 3 striaght bull calls. Starts with Fisher getting fouled while dribbling up court, next Dick runs right into Dunleavy and no call. Last, rookie Smith was out of bounds calling a time out and got it. WTF??
I don't know, but the Warriors brass ought to file a complaint with the league. Those guys were bozos, especially the youngest ref. Go back to the nbdl, son! Well no loss, the Warriors didn't earn it by playing defense. And they wouldn't have gained anything by winning because the Warriors record is so horrible. The Dale Davis and the Fisher free throw misses also cost us. Our lineups were just too small to contain their big wing players, but I think the Warriors just weren't bringing the defensive effort because they knew they were owned on some of the matchups. When Rodney Rogers and Nachbar are shooting over 60% a piece, you know you gotta do something. Might as well just throw the season if we're not going to make any improvements by February 24 deadline. We need to improve every facet of this team. Perimeter defense, Transition defense, playmaking, shooting, inside scoring... everything.
This is what frustrates fans... like any other game, no matter how well we shoot. (Like tonight's game: 48% The other team always shoots at least 5-10% higher than we do) The hornets shot 54%. That's just unacceptable. This team needs to play some defense or get more scorers. Maybe Mullin doesn't know what that is because he never played it. Most of their points came in the paint too, but we gave up a lot of 3's as well.

Whee, I'm high on frustration!
Man this game sucked. We lost how we played for sure, but on hte scoreboard this should have been our game. That rook ref made a B.S. call. Hello! Smith was out of bounds! Dickau ran over Fisher! And if Speedy was called for all those touch fouls, then, Rogers defenitly fouled J-Rich. Ahh!!! I'm so mad about this game......!!!!!!!!!!!
I dunno, it's not like we're making the playoffs. I would like to avoid the #11 draft pick 3 times in a row and actually get a projected impact player like Paul, Bogut, or whoever in the first round (ugh, there's so many positions we need to fill). If we do get another pick I'd like to use the last pick (if it's high enough) to grab Jarrett Jack. We need to grab players that can do it all on both ends of the court with a reasonably talented skillset. So if they aren't mobile enough to handle their own defensive assignments, they better shoot the f-n lights out on offense and have all the charateristics of a leader and all around player. That's why there are no more Larry Birds... just wannabes.
What kind of defensive matchups are being used? Does Montgomery take any consideration into who is defending whom? Seriously. How can these players all have breakout games(Casey Jacobsen, Rodney Rogers, Nachbar, Dickau, etc)? Especially when the teams "better" defenders are on the bench in Cheaney, Pietrus, and Clifford Robinson, or at least not getting signifigant minutes. I mean Musselman was very keen on defensive matchups. I haven't seen a Warriors game in a while, so please inform me. Does Montgomery take defensive matchups into consideration at all when he decides who to play? It doesn't seem like it from the box scores and the few games I have seen this year. (I have been seriously slacking when it's come to watching games this year, life seems busy these days, but then again it doesn't seem like I am missing too much by not watching the Warriors play...)

When we start Speedy/Fisher/JR/Dunleavy/Foyle, we obviously aren't going to wow anyone defensively at any position, but I think the team realizes that, and they seem to play better help defense to compensate. The help actually seemed to be working pretty well, until the Hornets started finding Nachbar in the corner. He had open 3's all day because his man kept rotating off of him. As for the other guys, Rogers: Dunleavy can't guard him. Although, he hurt us a lot more from the perimeter than in the paint, despite having about 50lbs on Dunleavy. Jacobsen: Played at the 1, and was just a bit too tall for Speedy or Fisher to handle. Montgomery never adjusted the lineup around him, though. Dickau: It seemed to me like Speedy played pretty good defense on him, but Dickau simply could not miss. This really made me angry. You have to stop guys like him. Slow 6'0 guys should not dictate the pace of the game. Montgomery should have compensated for the hot hand. And our guys: Robinson: Montgomery was probably not playing him because he wanted to maximize Mike's minutes, since he has been playing well as of late and Cliff is on his way out the door. Pietrus: Was in a world of his own on Friday. Specifically, I think he was in Lala Land. Cheaney: He's slowing down as the season is wearing on, and so is his defense. Richarson is putting in a lot more effort nowadays too. I would say Cheaney and JR are pretty much a wash on that end of the court currently.
Jacobsen: Played at the 1, and was just a bit too tall for Speedy or Fisher to handle. Montgomery never adjusted the lineup around him, though. Hmm...Byron Scott is smart like that. Those are the patterns good coaches use, and something it seems as if Montgomery lacks in. But if Jacobsen is the PG, maybe you put in Cheaney and maybe put in a Fisher to guard another slightly bigger guard or something like that. Montgomery is slow in recognizing these things, in my limited time watching him do his thing this year. I remember against the Raptors he had Foyle and possibly Dale Davis on the bench while Arujo, the rook from Toronto, tore things up and was being guarded by Clifford Robinson or something(which was a mismatch due to Arujo being massive). Then in that same game he put Biedrins out there to guard Matt Bonner. I mean if they aren't going to play him because he is not strong enough why does he put him out there to guard for the most part a perimeter player. The only reasons I can think of are because he doesn't care about matchups, was unprepared and didn't know about Bonner's game, and the rest of his coaching staff didn't know it either(which would be very sad), or they just didn't care... When you don't have an over-talented team, matchups are EVERYTHING. And if your coach doesn't care about matchups(offensivly or defensivly), it's only that much more difficult to win. For what Musselman had, he was a very good coach in terms of putting in players that could at least attempt to hold their own defensivly, one of the reasons why Cheaney and Clifford played so much. One of the reasons why fans got upset too I guess... Rogers: Dunleavy can't guard him. Although, he hurt us a lot more from the perimeter than in the paint, despite having about 50lbs on Dunleavy...Montgomery was probably not playing him because he wanted to maximize Mike's minutes I would bet a little change in pressure put on Rogers for a few minutes wouldn't have taken too much away from Dunleavy's game, would it? I mean that is why Najera and Clifford Robinson are on the team, right? I remember people saying this team was going to have a very good defense, and they do have solid defenders. But...not going to be use I guess. And hey, if you don't want to take out Dunleavy, maybe when Jacobsen is in there you put Dunleavy on him instead of subing him out. Then put in Najera or Clifford in for Fisher or Speedy. But like I have said, I haven't seen many games this year, especially lately, so maybe I am wrong, which is very possible...And maybe Montgomery did do this...
I didn't notice that Clif, about Jacobsen playing the point. That's funny because Monty used to coach him in college! LOL.
