Not sure why the Lakers want Ellis, but I'm surprised the Warriors turned this deal down. Odom is the perfect solution for their front court.
Probably better offers on the table. I'm thinking that if Irving goes #1 there's gonna be a strong push for Williams at #2
Can't remember if it was KNBR or ESPN but someone was saying NBA people are afraid to trade for Lamar because of concerns about how he would react to being away from LA where his wife/reality TV show, etc. is. Lamar has one year left and then a player option though. I'd be for this deal if it meant we were under the cap next season. That would be fun playing the Lakers with Monta/Kobe/Pau/Bynum 4 times a season lol.
I am glad the Warriors turned that down. Odom does not really fit because we already have David Lee and Wright. I don't want Odom as the center. Furthermore, he is too old. Also I have to believe that Ellis is Mark Jackson's guy. Mark Jackson loves the player that can bail out a coach. Or in other words he likes the player that a coach can say, "hey guy, go get some points for us." If the Warriors trade Ellis, they will need to get a player like that in return, from my judgment at least (unless if Jackson's opinion gets over-ridden).
Jackson says he'll hold guys accountable on defense. I think if you reduce Monta's mpg and tell him to play honest defense or else sit on the bench AND you add a reserve player who can really D up (like a Tony Allen type) then it could work. It would help to get a big shotblocking C too. That's a lot of "ifs" though.
True on all counts. I can also see the Mark Jackson/Monta Ellis dynamic getting troublesome. If locker room chemistry last season really was as good as it seems to me to have been, then benching Monta when it's deserved could really put things to the test. Better to not even let things get to that point. Ellis has probably been through a lot already with all these rumors. Maybe we thank him and move on at the same time by sending him to Memphis, where he's closer to home. And still get Tony Allen somehow after all.
