Strange. He's exactly the type of player they need. Tall rebounder with a jump shot who will play for pennies. If they don't make a move to get another big man, they are going to be a bit thin up front (Randolph, Wright, Beans, Turiaf). Unless Randolph/Wright will own all 48 PF minutes, and Beans/Turiaf will own all 48 C minutes... I don't see that working. We need a big body in here to bang (anyone heard from Richard Hendrix lately?).
Well apparently there's a potential Tyson Chandler --- Emeka Okeafor trade being discussed (which, if it's a straight up swap, is bad for the Bobcats, no?) So those two guys are available. Maybe we could offer Belly/Maggette/pick for one of them?
I think Boozer is more likely if it's a big name. But yeah, something is up. Davidson didn't look god at all in SL though, very bad actually. Still, he was at the very least 6 fouls, they're definitely too thin now.
I guess they might have found another cheap big man, but there's no one that's a big different-maker out there. They were waiting on a veteran big man for cheap, and the only ones still out there are Lee, who's out of the price range and restriced, Hakim Warrick, who's also restricted, or maybe someone like Pops Mensah-Bonsu, D-League All-Star. There's alot of big guys I wouldn't touch, still unsigned...I hope it's not one of those guys, and instead this is just a money move getting ready for some kind of trade.
I really like Okafor and have wanted the Warriors to get him for a while, but only if Nellie will be willing to play him alongside Biedrins or Turiaf. If not, he'd be kind of waste only playing backup 5 and taking that time from Turiaf. He does have the skill to play 4 but that's not really Nellie's style.
Is Marvin Williams still out there. He seems like a perfect backup in a Nelson's system. Can handle, shoot, big enough to play 4. He's like a not quite as good AR. Unless I'm forgetting someone, it seems like ATL could use a SF, unless they are planning on starting Crawford and playing Johnson there. But then they would be think at the 2. Either way, I wonder if a S & T involing some of Maggette/ Beli/ Azu could be worked out?
Hakim Warrick is a UFA now, Memphis dropped his rights to save money or something. But yeah I agree. Davidson basically wasn't good at anything. He wasn't even as athletic as advertised. There's better min. salary, unproven, end of the bench type guys out there to be had. Doubt it means there's a big trade in the works though.
Williams is still available, but he's likely going to cost over $7 million, and I always think of him as Al Harrington 2.0. I was looking over the D-League and Euro lists and didn't see anyone pop out at me, but probably easily better players than Davidson at the same time. Might as well give someone new a chance, though it'll probably be someone nobody's heard of. Warrick is a great value-type player, great production for what his market value is ($3-4 million), but after thinking about it some more, he also basically just duplicates the same issues we're having, since he's an athletic slashing forward, and not a defensive, jump-shooting guy.
James Augustine blew up in Summer League, and has been gaining interest from what I've heard. Maybe Warriors are pursuing him as a cheap back-up.
Hard to put any stock in summer league performances. The Warriors have a lot of nice pieces already and simply need time and the proper roster moves to build a contender.
