That's okay. I don't think he was really going to help us in the situation we have. We had an issue of not being able to dribble penetrate or to set teammates up... Bynum could dribble penetrate, but he's pretty weak when it comes to finding other players... We need that one player to make teammates all around him a lot better. And that's why there's a difference between scoring in the flow versus looking to score. When scoring from all different places are taken care of, that's when a creative playmaker like Baron Davis shines and is rewarded in the open court or halfcourt. We need some backup player to emulate Baron Davis' playmaking skills, as well as improve the 3,4,5 spots because we know they suck and don't do the positions like the sport intended.

Bynum is a nice bench player though. I think he has what it takes to be a good dribble penetrating scorer, but he really gets in the way of Monta Ellis, who has way more upside and is probably a lot better at running the point, shooting off the dribble, and defense. He's probably a suspect ballhandler going left though... but it's something he can improve on. I'd rather we focus on Ellis instead of developing another rookie combo, otherwise, let's get an old school veteran point like Steve Blake or trade for Brevin Knight. Another option might be to see if Moochie Norris can still play. We just need a point guard that truly understands how to run a team. Fish wasn't that guy and neither were much of our rookies right now. Mullin should've understood that Claxton and NVE were pure point guards and we had big men that could pass and finish inside. When Foyle and Fisher replaced the outgoing players, it ruined that inside-outside game and dribble penetration. Dunleavy/Pietrus playing crappy more than usual, ruined it even worse.

The above post is also why I have empathy for any unlucky bastard who accepts a job as a Warriors head coach and doesn't have the formula to win or roster depth/flexibility needed to make adjustments to have a chance at winning. Plus, it seems more and more like a priority to win with vets, which IMO is more of Mullin's fault because he acted so hastily on getting Foyle/Fisher locked up for years and years because he felt they added to a "playoff team". If they were 2-3 year deals for somebody cheaper, we could probably play whoever fit the bill. Not like it would matter much though unless we discover some franchise worthy talent and some form of inside play... The Warriors better know what they're doing in terms of developing talent the right way and making sure we're still trying to build an actual team. I'd hate to think the Warriors are only around because they're developing players for Washington Wizards.

This is what happens when the #5 and #3 pick didn't land us an important rare position player... especially at the big positions. How long has it been since we drafted a decent big man that could play like a big man? Nobody say Murphy. That guy is far from being an actual big man.

The moment we are in luxury tax territory, Bynum's fate was sealed...

His contract would have been guaranteed if he stayed on the roster and we have alot of options at PG with Baron/McLeod/Dunleavy/Monta. I liked him but he really didn't look like anything special.

Hey! For a little guy he can throw down some explosive Nate Robinson-like jimmy-jams. That right there is special! But he still has a chance to come to camp. If McCleod can take care of the rock in reserve minutes though, I think we'll be set there.

Ah who cares about backup points. Let's worry about the main team! [IMG]

    PG Baron Davis
    SG Jason Richardson
    SF Mike Dunleavy Jr.
    PF Ike Diogu/Chris Taft/Biedrins
    C Andris Biedrins or POB

PF/C will take the longest time to develop, so I'm mainly concerned about veteran leadership for the big men and getting a new small forward that can handle some guard.

We need the big men playing like big men and the backcourt to handle/pass/shoot the ball. Hopefully, Ike is more of a star player on this team. Touches in the paint is a good thing, but will our rookies get the touches they need? It seems like we're developing too many young big men and we have to pay a lot to keep on developing them. I bet POB/Biedrins/Taft all those guys will ask for Chris Wilcox or Nene type money. That'll be hard to fit in with Baron Davis making so much.

If the Warriors were football, we still we need a quarterback and an offensive line, rather than worry about other positions that don't benefit unless you have a quarterback and an offensive line to support it... Jrich ain't Kobe Bryant or Ray Allen, so he needs a lot of help to emulate a real backcourt player. Jrich is probably closer to a Desmond Mason or a Shawn Marion. One of those converted forward to guard types. So unless we trade him, we need some kind of guard at small forward. Dunleavy fits the bill and we just have to hope that he gets better or else we need to find another player that fits Jrich or trade them both. SG/SF are supposed to be interchangeable with compatible chemistry (this means guys not constantly looking to score, but to defer, score within the flow, set other guys up). PF/C are supposed to be interchangeable as well with PF being more like a small forward in some aspects, but most like a center. PG/SG are supposed to be primary/secondary ballhandlers and playmakers and are expected to shoot very well and get the big men involved inside.

Basketball teams sort of have to be designed this way or else its harder to compete in the top half of the NBA, especially the Western Conference. It's like a 3 wheel car versus a 4 wheel car. Despite Shaq going East and changing that conference, we still play a lot of teams with a big inside, defensive presence. So we need to be geared in both stopping and scoring against those teams. There's really no excuses, we either design the team that can compete in years to come or we waste cap on guys who don't perform. Mullin has been totally wasteful.
