" Ron Washington left the postgame news conference Thursday night, shaking his head and muttering something about never having seen a game like the one the Rangers had just won.

Josh Hamilton and Vladimir Guerrero, though, had made sure the manager was muttering through a smile rather than with a giant pain in his neck.

The duo delivered back-to-back home runs with two outs in the eighth inning, giving the Rangers a 13-12 victory after they had blown an eight-run lead to start a four-game series against Kansas City at Rangers Ballpark.

Guerrero hit two homers and drove in four runs. Hamilton had three RBIs, and Justin Smoak hit a three-run missile in the Rangers' six-run third inning that put them up, 8-0.

"We couldn't stop them, and they couldn't stop us," Washington said. "But the bottom line is we got the 27th out. Wow. That was one hell of a ballgame."

The Royals were on the verge of sending the Rangers to a crushing defeat after they scored five runs off Dustin Nippert in the sixth inning to tie it and then took a 12-11 lead in the eighth inning.

Former Rangers reliever Robinson Tejeda got the first two outs in the bottom of the inning before manager Trey Hillman went to Joakim Soria, one of baseball's top closers.

But Hamilton ripped a 3-2 change-up into the home-run porch, and Guerrero dumped a 1-0 cutter into the Rangers' bullpen. "
