Don't turn away, this story is special. Considered by many to be a children's story, but it isn't at all. It was originally a story told by Richard Adams to his family when they were young and grew into a famous novel. You can find it in just about every bookstore these days in almost any language. Unlike many animated features, the film faithfully emulated the dark and violent sophistication of the book. <font size=""3"">Watership Down</font> To make this as short as I can, for those that don't like to read big posts, this story has two characters in it based two old war buddies of Adams. This is about a group of rabbits that escape a clan (warren) because one of them (named Fiver) has flashes of horrible death. You'll notice the rabbits have their own specific words for things and Adams made a lot of effort to make everything insanely originally. This story is about survival, friendship and pride. It also showcases the World as seen through the beliefs of the rabbits. My only problem is removing two characters from the book and the engaging story in the second burrow. However, I grew up on this film and I'd like to share it with those who don't know it. Although the book is a bit different and the original, the film still holds true and brings amazing animations of the time (1978). Also bringing very touching moments. If you care to check it out, please do so as you can watch the entire film on Youtube. I hardly ever find people that even know about this film let alone the story anymore. Sasha especially, for your interest in films, if you haven't seen this before you'd probably regret missing this one. If you like the film you can purchase it on DVD from Amazon as far as I know. Also a good note for readers if you've never read the book before you really should. The writing is excellent quality. Adams is my favorite. Also please note that when searching for the DVD do not buy any other then the 1978 original as all of the others are "super child friendly" remakes that altered the story to death. Notable voice talent include: John Hurt (also from Alien, Hellboy, The Elephant Man, V for Vendetta) Richard Briers Zero Mostel (note: his last film) Enjoy and please discuss: Invalid Video Link Invalid Video Link Invalid Video Link Invalid Video Link Invalid Video Link Invalid Video Link Invalid Video Link Invalid Video Link Invalid Video Link Invalid Video Link
I remember watching this when I was very young, maybe 4 years old? And it left a lasting impression on me. I think this was the first cartoon that ever made me cry. I watched it again as an adult, and it still had a lot of powerful moments. Secret of Nihm is another good one.
This was also the first cartoon to make me cry. I think it still has that effect on anyone that watches it, even those of us who have already seen it. You know that the scenes are real though? Just like the novel the areas from the film are taken from actual places in England. Check it out at this website below. Some fan actually went around and took photos of everything. http://www.mayfieldiow.freewire.co.uk/watershp/watermain.htm
