Germany's 27-year-old, former interim king, Vitaly Tajbert, of Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg, retained his WBC super featherweight (130 pounds) title with Saturday's unanimous, ninth-round, technical decision over Hector Velazquez of Mex., before a partisan crowd at Stadthalle, Rostock, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

Referee Richard James Davies stopped the fight after the ninth round because of a bleeding cut over Tajbert's right eye that had resulted from an accidental head butt by Velazquez in the second round.

The German led on the judges' cards by 87-83, 88-82, and, 88-83, respectively, according to Christophe Fernandez, Fabian Guggenheim, and, Joel Scobie
