We had him on the hook, he ate the bait, then swam away. Now who? A little fish like Jim Mora Jr. seems silly to me. I can't imagine the Raiders seriously competing next season with him at the helm. Jim Fassel? He's still available, but I haven't paid much attention to him. He has a Superbowl appearance to his credit, but then so does Callahan. What the Raiders definitely don't need is a Tom Coughlin-type disciplinarian. The Raiders seem to do better with a "players' coach", somebody that is not so hell bent on doing things "their way", but instead putting the ultimate Raider goal at the forefront...."Just Win Baby". Granted, everyone has their own style of coaching, but if it's not broke, don't fix it. The #1 offense of 2002 was completely dismantled by Callahan, and look at the results. It seemed like Oakland was never playing to it's strengths this season and I feel that a lot of it had to do with playcalling and game planning. Gannon even admitted that Callahan, Trestman, and he were never on the same page this year. Let Gannon do his thing. Let him call his own plays. The guy has 17 seasons of experience in the west-coast offense. He knows what he's doing *and* he's the one on the field doing all the work. The same could be said for Jerry Rice and Tim Brown in terms of reading defenses. At this point, I'm almost tempted to think that Oakland might do better to hire a defensive-oriented coach now. After drafting all those high-round *defensive* draft picks in the past few years, why not? That might be the thing that turns those young guys into one of the top 5 in the league. Couple that with an already veteran offense and the Raiders are back in the playoffs next season. So how about Romeo Crennel from New England?
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Steelerfan_2003)</div><div class='quotemain'> What about Tom Moore from Indy? The OC.... Or Marv Levy? </div> Hmmm. Marv Levy is even older than Al Davis. Is that possible? I know he's interested in the Bill's opening, but jeez, 78 years old. I would be very impressed if he did it at his age. Tom Moore. I'm not opposed to him. I'd still rather get Romeo Crennel though. I'd like to see a defensive-oriented coach in Oakland for a change. I think that the current roster would benefit from it much more. Look at what Tony Dungy did for Indy. Al is likely to go offense though, as history shows, so Tom Moore seems the most plausible now.
There seems to be all kinds of names thrown around, but Moore might be the most qualified "offensive mind". And I don't mean offensive as in insulting either. But he's done a lot with the Colts offense and could be very good for the Raiders. I guess all we can do now is wait & see....
Alright I'm here to censor all this romeo crennel talk. He is not going anywhere. Well I hope he doesn't. He would be a good head coach but for whatever reason it looks like both him and weis may get passed up again.
