i was saying this in the offseason and no one seemed to agree with me. he would bring toughness, perimeter defense, and vet experience-he has won 2 titles

Saying that we should have signed him doesn't mean that we had a chance and squandered it.

That doesn't matter. It's not like Portland offered him something and he refused. You do realize that because fans might want a player to sign in Portland, it doesn't mean that the player wanted to, or that it was a realistic thing, right?

Man, we should've signed Baron Davis!

So you would overbid just to get James Posey? What would that accomplish?

I'll agree with you on this one- he would have been a helpful veteran presence with decent d. We should have tried to sign him- though I can see him picking NO over us.

How do you know the Blazers didn't try to sign him? Other than having zero cap space, of course.

Is it that important whether we tried to sign him or not?

We had the midlevel exception- which he ended up taking.

MLE with luxury tax ramifications in the future though, right? I ask this as a legitimate question.

Yes. A poster started a rumor that the Blazers should have signed him, so it is a legit thread!

Why tie up the mid-level when we're hoping for cap space in 2009?

He wouldn't have been worth it on this team.

Not a fan of Posey, myself. Would he make this team better, today, if we had offered (and he had accepted) the max MLE? Almost certainly.

Would it help us in the long run, when his contract would be biting into the cap space we have and taking up minutes that are probably going to be helpful for Batum and Webster and Rudy and Bayless to grow as players? I seriously doubt it.

It's 6 million- we could have him and still have cap space- would just have to renounce Frye and Blake.

Well, he did make 6 three-pointers today. But on the other hand, the blazers didn't play today. So I'm not sure if he would really have had that much effect.

I actually like the idea of adding Ron Artest better. I think our team chemistry is good enough to handle one knuckleball and I think he has the talent to help us contend next year. He'd immediately improve our perimeter defense. I'd offer him 30million over three years with a team option for an extra year.

Of course, this is assuming we can't get Kobe! !!!

Artest's toughness and D would be good on our team, but certainly not his offense. There is one ball to go around. By next year we will have 3 legit options on our first unit, and then Rudy, Jerryd, Outlaw comin' off the bench. IDK if you have seen Ron play, but he gets shot happy a lot, and likes to iso a lot. Someone like Battier would bring vet exp. and good defense but wouldn't demand shots on offense. I think he is a better choice.
