<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">"Coach Jim O'Brien described as "fictitious" a report in the New York Daily News alleging that 76ers star Allen Iverson consistently has been late for practice. In Sunday's edition of the paper, a one-sentence note said: "Allen Iverson's tardiness and aversion to practice is already starting to wear thin on coach Jim O'Brien, and teammates as well." O'Brien had not been aware of the article, but he quickly disputed it after the Sixers practiced yesterday at Dr. Phillips High School."</div> Courtesy : Philadelphia Inquirer Here we go again. I really thought we wouldn't have to deal with this crap again but then again I kinda had a feeling that Allen would try to take advantage of a new coach.
This just sounds like the New York media trying to stir something up. If O'Brien says it isn't true then imo that's the end of the story. An just a NY media member just trying to get there name out.
WHY? Allen Iverson? Again? This is unacceptable. This guy is really good in basketball. He was the leagues, MVP, 2-time scoring champ, he had many olympic visits, Rookie of the Year, and yet he still can't step nup and finally become a leader? Allen Iverson makes me very dissapointed sometimes. Many players would really look up to a player like Allen Iverson because of his many accomplishments however, when he does stupid things like not being on time for practice all it does is make younger players not really care too much about practice either. As the leader of a team you have to make an example so all of the players can follow you. I hope Korver, Iguodala, and the rest of the Sixers young guys don't start doing this. AI was blessed with tremendous talent and acts irresponsibly. I was watching SC in the summer and they were doint that top 25 thing about the dumbest things people were saying and guess what? Allen Iverson's practice philosophy ranked #2 in it. This also happened in the summer Olympics. Iverson even came late after Larry Brown decided to make him and Duncan co-camptains. I strongly don't think AI is ready to be a leader/captain and the way it looks he will never reach there. The numerous amount of "questionable" things that he has done in the course of his career shows that he has yet to mature and this is just another thing that proves it. Eight years and no improvement is unacceptable to me. As I said before, AI is the leader of the 76er's squad and therefore should act more responsible and be the first one at practice and the last one to leave. If I had Allen Iverson's talent believe you me I would make sure that I was on practice on time and was the last one to leave.
Who knows this could just be some report that was made up.Just like fake rumors cant start, maybe this is what this article is a fake rumor. But I hope this is put on hush, the last thing we need to distract are season is an incident like this that might not even be true. Until Jim Obrien comes out and says that Iverson has been being late to practice then I dont realy care less about this whole thing. Besides how late can he be to practice, its good we know that he at least is showing up.
I do not believe this story basically, because JO says it is not true. JO is very open minded about his opinions and feelings like in the pre season interview when asked about DC's future with the team he plain out siad he is not in our plans, and his contract will be bought out or he will be traded plain, and simple. He tells the story straight.
On hoopshype it has already been said that JO has no clue what these articles are talking about, and he also said AI has been late to practice once by about 30 seconds, and even that asnt when the team was practicing but like a weight lifting session or something like that.
How did the stories start if it was nothing. I understand the media can unnessarily hype something up but, they need at least a little thing to hype something up. I'm sure there might be a little substance to this story.

Another NY article... I from NY and some of the articles that I read in the local newspapers are just a bunch of nonsense and this is no different. They?re just trying to stir up some controversy that will hopefully make readers come back for more. Well the fact is that O'Brien cleared Iverson name, so what more do you need? During the summer Olympics something real similar also occurred. From what I remember, the entire Senior Men National team was late to a press conference; however Allen Iverson out of people name was on the story title. Why? Well he?s a easy target because of all the mischief he?s been involved in his career. The title of the story was "Iverson in more trouble" or some sort. At first it mentioned Iverson being late, and after you scrolled down a couple paragraphs or so that's when it tells the whole story. And the truth was that the whole team was indeed late due to traffic. So this is just yet another article trying to bring Iverson down.
Yes I recall hearing somethingon the news and it said that AI might get benched for tomorrows game vs the Spurs. I hope this isn't true as the Sixers will need AI. Personally I think this is just some bull crap with the media just trying to get a story because they have nothing else to write about that could seem interesting. AI still has the personallity he had but a new attitude and I thin khe will respect Jim O Brien as the head coach unlike Chris Ford and Randy Ayers, especailly Chris Ford
Let me start by saying Allen Iverson has almost as many awards as Tim Duncan (wans't he an all-star MVP?) even if it is true, c'mon. People wouldn't ask Jordan to practice if he didn't want to. Why not A.I.? If he doesn't want to practice, he shouldn't practice. He should practice oops though. He blew one to the other A.I., if he learned to oop, he'd be mvp again, that'd bee 3-4 more assists per. C'mon. No question it's fake. They just want to ressurect arguably the best quote in sports history. I have to do it...... Allen Iverson If I can't practice, I can't practice. It is as simple as that. It ain't about that at all. It's easy to sum it up if you're just talking about practice. We're sitting here, and I'm supposed to be the franchise player, and we're talking about practice. I mean listen, we're sitting here talking about practice, not a game, not a game, not a game, but we're talking about practice. Not the game that I go out there and die for and play every game last it's my last but we're talking about practice man. How silly is that? ...we're sitting here talking about practice, not a game, not a game, not a game, but we're talking about practice. Now I know that I'm supposed to lead by example and all that but I'm not shoving that aside like it don't mean anything. I know it's important, I honestly do but we're talking about practice. We're talking about practice man. We're talking about practice. We're talking about practice. We're not talking about the game. We're talking about practice. When you come to the arena, and you see me play, you've seen me play right, you've seen me give everything I've got, but we're talking about practice right now. Reporter But [not going to practice is] an issue that your coach continues to raise? Iverson Hey I hear you, it's funny to me too. Hey it's strange to me too but we're talking about practice man, we're not even talking about the game, when it actually matters. We're talking about practice. Reporter Is it possible that if you practiced, not you, but you would make your teammates better? Iverson How in the hell can I make my teammates better by practicing? Reporter So they can be used to playing with you. Iverson They should be used to playing with me. Those are my teammates. So my game is going to deteriorate because I'm not practicing with my teammates? Is my game is going to get worse? I'm asking you, is my game going to get worse? So what about my game? Is my game going to get better because other players are hurt on my team, I mean, do that hurt me? Do you think that hurts me? I'm being honest, people are hurt on my team but do that hurt me? Does that hurt me when I go out there and play 48 minutes, does that hurt me as a player? Does that hurt me if this person is hurt or that person is hurt? Do it hurt me?
I don't know what to believe. O'Brien is the type of guy that would lie about it, because he doesn't want the story to get a life of its own. He doesn't like team issues to find their way into the press.
