I want to know everyone's opinion on his potential. He was drafted #6 overall, so he must have some potential.
A solid reserve, IMO. A shooter off the bench who can occasionally slash into the paint for a hoop and won't embarrass himself on the defensive end. How much potential does Kwame Brown have? In my opinion, Webster's potential should be judged from what he's shown in his three seasons in the league (and however one factors in his injury), not his draft position.
I see his offensive potential to be the 3rd option on the team, actually maybe the same kind of offensive gusto as LMA. That's best case....realisticically I see him being a 12-15ppg player in a regular rotation, starting and providing good defense without making too many mistakes.
I will be so excited when we can stop talking about potential. In his first three years Webster has been inconsistant, so that's my vote. An inconsistant average a best player.
I think webster can develope into a Steven Jackson type combo threat with long range bombs and solid slasher moves to the hoop. I just hope he can put it together for the Blazer if not I think he's capable of pulling a JO and blowing up after leaving Portland. Webster will be the starting 3 next year and i expect Batum to be our backup 3 with Outlaw shifting to backup 4 or being traded.
A Derek Anderson type player. Solid reserve, possibly a starter that can average up to 15-16 ppg. good shooter, good defender, but nothing elite or all-star level, and certainly short of the t-mac comparisons some of the mock drafts had him as.
Webster's potential? If he had been drafted 15-20 spots lower, and paid accordingly, he would be an acceptable reserve who does one thing well. If you judge him based on his being the #6 pick in the draft - he is a serious flop. The one thing he is pretty good at, shooting open 3-pointers, Rudy does better while bring other positives to the table.
Martell's potential is up there. I think it's higher than Rudy's, but lower than any of the big three. Here's how I've got my potential for greatness list... 1. Oden 2. Roy 3. Aldridge 4. Webster 5. Rudy 6. Petteri "The Finisher" Koponen 7. Outlaw 8. Sergio 9. Bayless Supposedly he looked AWESOME in the off-season workouts. I thought he looked really good in the one pre-season game he played in. He looked primed for a breakout season. Of course, a lot of that was based off of him putting his athleticism to better use. Improved defense, more driving to the basket, etc. If he's lost a step in all of this he's back to the same ole "What the hell were we thinking, we could have had Chris Paul" Martell we know and love.

Unless he is unable to come back from this injury, he'll be a very good player in the NBA. He pretty much has the full package- strength, speed, explosive first step, can shoot & defend...

I'm getting tired of the "potential" word. Brandon and Roy showed up their rookie seasons, and were very good by their sophmore years. As Red on American Idol said, "Don't sing about it, be about it, don't sing it, just bring it". But for the last 5 years we've been waiting around talking about the "potential" of guys like Telfair, Outlaw, Sergio, and Webster. Of course Webby does have "potential", he's the most athletic player on the team, and has a smooth jump shot. Too bad he plays the game like a 40 year old version of himself....standing around waiting for 3s. He also gets nervous when he's too wide open and can miss shots badly. He may have another disappointing season this year, and he'll be let off the hook because he's coming off an injury...and we'll still be talking about his "potential" next offseason. Some are still talking about Outlaw's potential, even though he's been in the league 6 years.
I think at the top of his potential he can be Michael Finley. The problem with trying to forecast someone through stats on this team is that if our players realize their potential, no one will average over 20 points over a season yet we have seven guys who could score 40+ in a game. That's how freakishly talented and deep this team is.
I don't know what his potential is as far as comparable players go, but my guess is that he'll never live up to his sixth overall selection. My guess is that he'll end up a solid reserve capable of putting up 10-13 points per night as mostly a spot up shooter and a decent defender. with a career PER of about 14 when it's all said and done.
