Jiri to Cavs Just saw it scroll across ESPNews, Jiri to the Cavs for a 2007 first round pick. The Cavs used their $1.5 mil trade exception. I think this trade works out well for both sides. While I like Jiri and his game, he was caught in a numbers crunch here and seemed the least comfortable in the system. While I don't see the Cavs going anywhere but up, it's never a bad idea to have multiple first round picks that can be packaged elsewhere.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">CLEVELAND (AP) ? The Cleveland Cavaliers addressed their need for an outside shooter Thursday by acquiring guard Jiri Welsch from the Boston Celtics for a 2007 first-round draft pick.</div> It's done and IMO, so are we for the day. Announcing this one so early means that DA has given up on any other deals. Jiri would have been valuable in a package deal. Taking him off the table means GP and Blount (not that his contract makes him easy to move this year anyways) are staying.
I knew this was going to happen. It's not a bad deal because we don't really need Jiri. I just wish that the pick was much sooner.
