Melvin Ely was traded to the Bobcats for a second round pick, making Wilcox expendable no longer, and making me wonder why the Sonics didn't try to get Ely for a second round pick and cash.
I'm very disappointed in the front office of the Sonics. As much talk as we heard coming into this offseason about how active we were going to be to improve our roster absolutely nothing has happen thus far. We drafted a kid that we never even worked out or talked to, we let Brent Barry go w/o receiving any compensation, and our biggest free agent target is Derek Fisher. At what point are the Sonics going to make a serious attempt to upgrade our roster?
^ I couldn't agree more. Obviously we don't know what goes on behind the scenes, but the Clippers seemed like the obvious team to raid. There have been numerous reports about them liking Rashard Lewis, while before that trade they had Elton Brand, Chris Kaman, Melvin Ely and Chris Wilcox, all former lottery picks and all frontcourt players. Wilcox has such an upside, surely it would have been worth pursuing heavily. Nick Collison summed it up perfectly at a scrimmage yesterday: "I hope people don't call me the savior, because I'm going to be a rookie like most rookies." I still have a feeling we'll end with Shareef. Kurt Thomas is very available, but the Knicks have such horrible salaries that it would take Ray or Rashard to get anything done.
