what do you guys think about the trade? I didn't like to see Jim Jax go, but Wesley has brought alot of energy to the team, and he is a quick defender, once his shots start to fall in like in that lakers games, i think it's a very good trade.
At first it sounded like a bad trade! While JJ was in a shooting slump, he was doing a great job for us through most of the season and was also very consistent early on. He would carry the team when either Yao and T-Mac would play games as ugly as an inverted toe nail (which I would say was more than half of the time in the early part of the season). Jackson was also probably our team leader. In retrospect, the deal was GREAT for us. While we might have lost alot in Jackson, our team is playing like a restored 1969 Cadillac Eldorado. Basically what I'm saying is that we have been polished up. This doesn't mean that Jimmy was a bad player, just that we seemed to have gained something through Wesley. We win many more games, but we can't just pin it on this trade. Jon Barry has done alot for us of the bench, and to get him we had to deal a guard with skill but no will to use it (Lue) which just seems to make things so much better. Then you add Padgett's recent rise to the role of Mr. Clutch, and are obvious 6th man over our current winning streak. Now the Jackson/Boki - Wesley deal was a great thing for us, but it is hard to really say its the BEST thing to happen this season because there are many other factors to add to our recent success. In the end of it all, I guess all that matters is that we're winning. WOOHOO!!!
Technically, we are doing better with the addition of Wesley and Barry in our lineup, but I think the change added to our strategy rather than whether or not Wesley is better than Jim Jackson. With Wesley, we have a much faster lineup that can keep up and help burn out teams with offense. Although Jim Jackson was a great player for us, he didn't bring much speed at the small forward spot so then we didn't really have much to bring against fast break teams. However, with Sura, Wesley, and McGrady playing the one, two, and three, we gained some quickness to help contain running teams like Phoenix, Dallas, or Sacramento. In addition to that, Wesley has some of the three point skills that Jim Jackson brought to the team, so not much was lost besides the big leadership role Jackson had. So I guess the trade wasn't really for issues with Jackson or Nachbar, but rather the limits on strategy that they brought to the team. Jim Jackson will always be missed, but at least now our team has found some major chemistry, fixed up the strategies, and has finally figured out how to win.
It's debatable whether or not the trade made the Rockets better but one thing's for sure. Rockets Trading JJ away has made Phoenix even stronger.
I didn't like the trade at first, but I think it has made us better. Wesley doesn't turn over the ball nearly as much, he's a decent penetrator, he's better in transition, and he can guard quick perimeter players better. I felt bad for Jim Jackson after the trade, but now that he's in a good situation in Phoenix everything looks to have turned out fine. Except for New Orleans. Oh well, someone has to be the loser.
With Jackson, we knew what we were getting night in night out, which is some decent three-point shooting and 40 minutes of die-hard defense. However, there's not much else he can do. With Wesley, we have been smaller and thus allowing Sura to guard the opponent two guard, who had trouble guarding quicker point guards before the trade. The trade has helped us in more ways than just offense, but losing Nachbar might come back to haunt us in the future.
I used to like Nachbar, but he is just taking too long to develop into a dependable player off the bench. I know some people might say im being impatient with Boki, but I'm not looking for him to be a a superstar, not even a starter. Just a good role player off the bench. He has had lots of time to prove that to us and hasn't. Maybe he can turn things around, but the way I see it, he was useless to us.
i am happy for JJ, in phoenix and all. but seriously u guys found the formula for success, get 4-5 young guys and fill the rest of your roster with true veterans, with guys like Mutombo, Juwan, Sura(kinda), Wesley, Strickland. u guys are gonna be a 5 seed in the playoffs i feel.
I was the only one who said this trade wouldn't be as bad as everyone else thought it would be. ANd it turned out that he was better than everyone expected. I thought wesley would do well for the rockets, but I also thought Jim Jackson was a huge loss to the rockets, with all the things brought to the team(threes mainly). Of course, it turned out that we got the better end of the trade just like the Tmac-Francis/mobley/ trade. David Wesley is turning out to be a three point specialist for us, as well as the team defensive leader. Even Van Gundy was full of praises about Wesley's defense. Also, I can't believe how good we are when we surround tWo young all stars with experienced (old) role players in the team. Of course the main difference on our success is due to Tmac's change in form and also mainly from the acquisition of Wesley and JB.
Wesley's defense has really stood out in his time with us, and although he's had a bad start with us shooting-wise, he has made 13 of his last 17 threes, which is a great feat. Hopefully, even better play from him from now on will propel us to a magical second half of the season. I still believe we can finish top 4 in the West.

I hope we get some luck against the pacers today and win against them. 6 straight wins would be a great confidence boost.
"Houston has 19 wins since David Wesley joined the team on Dec. 29, which is the most in the NBA over that stretch." Taken from a guy who said it was from ESPN Thats all I have to say on the matter.
Wesley and Barry were the catalyst to our recent good run. Add Yao's newfound consistensy, Sura's triple threat, Howards shooting, McGrady's scoring and a good bench and we've got ourselves a good team offensively and defensively.

I personally thought it was a bad trade, but maybe I was just sad to see JJ go. the smaller backcourt and the addition of another ballhandler looks to have been a huge difference. Just looking at the ball movement now - it's easy to see how the offense has improved. Most possessions the rockets are getting wide open looks or they are getting the ball where they want it - in Yao or T-Mac's hands.

As good a shooter and defender Jackson was, he wasn't much of anything else. He didn't penetrate much, and had a tendency to take bad shots. Wesley has been much wiser about his shot selection, and he's been able to guard the quicker point guards that Sura had a problem with.
