Camby, Gone. Wallace, Gone. Oden, Gone. Nate, Gone. Johnson, Gone. Hello, New Jersey's 1st Round Pick. Hello, Jonny Flynn. No need to say hello to the rest, they won't be here that long. Hello, Lottery for the next few seasons. I need a drink.
Lottery THIS season. Then, we get back to fighting with OKC for top position in the west. 20mil of capspace and 2 lottery picks is a perfect way to start rebuilding. It can make for a very quick turnaround.
I don't think Flynn sticks beyond this year. He had a PER of 13 as a rookie... and that was when he was "good". Ed O.
I'll take mediocre next year IF we're on the upswing. If we have a handful of players that might improve as they get more experience. The team coming in this year had very little potential to improve although it demonstrated that there was lots of potential to take big steps back. Ed O.
Either way.... it's a tryout, and we hold a $4 million option for next year - not a bad way to take a flier on someone who once was considered a legit prospect. Sometimes PG's take a while to learn the ropes (Nash, anyone?). I don't expect Flynn to make leaps and bounds, but he has an opportunity to put it all out there and show us any possible glimpses into his abilities. He has struggled with injuries, and come back too soon (anyone active ever had a hip problem, you REALLY understand what I'm talking about). I, for one, am curious to see what, if anything, he has to offer.
Sorry - was quoting someone from this board when I earlier asked about Flynn's contract status. Will Flynn be restricted or unrestricted? But it really doesn't change the overall opinion expressed in my earlier post.
Unfortunately, that won't happen. As LaMarcus warned us yesterday, when the coach gets fired, teams start winning. It's 1 and done for us, again.
Wonder what it will be like when we look back on this day 2 or 3 years in the future The day our fortunes turned around? Or just another insignificant trade deadline in the grand scheme of things.
I don't know ... but I'll take the uncertainty these moves represent over the certainty that the team was going to languish in mediocrity (or worse?) if they didn't do something bold.
