It seems like Malik is a marked man around here and I don't understand why. It seems that people are trying to figure out what we could get for him and most think nothing or not much. If I was a GM for another team, I would love to get my hands on a veteran big that can play D, rebound, be a total team player, and hit open shots and free throws, and out hustle anyone on the court. It seems like some people are even mad at him, like he did something wrong, but he didn't, how can you when you don't get a chance? It wasn't Malik bricking a wide open shot with the game on the line, that was Horry. It wasn't Malik standing 12 feet away on pick and roll defense that left a wide open Kobe with an easy shot with the game on the line, that too was Horry. Horry stole Malik's minutes, and then disappeared when we needed him most, something Malik wouldn't have. Even when his shots off, Malik can do a lot for a team. Here are some stats from this year when Malik actually got to play (close to 30 mins) 11/3/04 vs Mem = 10 pts, 9 rebs, 2 blks, 1 stl 11/4/04 vs Mia = 14 pts, 11 rebs, 1 blk 11/6/04 vs Lal = 15 pts, 8 rebs 11/8/04 vs Dal = 20 pts, 22 rebs 11/15/04 vs Was = 23 pts, 8 rebs, 1 blk 12/1/04 vs Lac = 26 pts, 11 rebs, 1 blk 1/24/04 vs Noh = 20pts, 8 rebs, 3 stls 2/28/04 vs Den = 17 pts, 7 rebs, 1 blk 3/5/04 vs Dal = 18 pts, 10 rebs, 1 blk, 3 stls 3/6/04 vs Pho = 19 pts, 5 rebs 3/9/04 vs Mem = 19 pts, 14 rebs 3/10/04 vs Lac = 21 pts, 12 rebs 3/12/04 vs Gsw = 17 pts, 7 rebs 3/23/04 vs Minn = 15 pts, 8 rebs games he got minutes averages = 18.1 pts & 10 rebs Not to bad for a scrub right? This years per 48 minutes averages = 20.2 pts & 12.2 rebs and this is a off year? I for one am glad we have him on our team, even though Pop forgot what he can bring I didn't. Even though Pop thought the grass was greener on the other side (Horry), it wasn't. If Pop doesn't want him someone will, and if he is traded and goes to a team that actually plays him, he will be huge for them. You can't have enough guys like Malik on your team, this had to be a very frustrating year for him because when I researched these stats, I found that he could have a 21 pt, 12 rebound game and then play 4 minutes the very next game? And even when he got DNP after DNP, he never complained, he was a pro, when most guys now gripe about minutes, Malik just cheered on his team, a true team player. If he does leave, I for one will miss him, unlike guys like (Daniels, DA, Jax, Speedy) who I didn't mind when they left. Malik is a spur player heart and soul, and I hope it stays that way, all he needs is a chance to play.
He had some run-ins with Pop...they dont like each other very much , Rose has said they've put everything behind them but I dont buy it.I think he's most likely leaving , either by a trade or by the Bobcats picking him up. I agree with u tough , Malik deserved more time cause he can produce when given the opportunity...I still dont understand why Pop didnt give him more time in the LA series , it was obvious Horry still had some feelings for the Lakers. He wasnt even taking wide open shots despite having a very good series against the Grizz...I say let Horry's laker ass go and I'd like to keep Malik but I think the Spurs really want to get rid of his fat contract...by getting rid of it they can offer Kobe the most money out of any team except the lakers and still have some money for Manu.
Yeah i could have swarn i seen Horry walk to the Lakers bench in between timouts and half-time its true he cant produce like Malik has for the Spurs i wouldn't mind letting him go for Kobe but i would be very disappointed if they dont get anything in return.
The Spurs almost got Kurt Thomas for Malik (The trade was completed a few minutes after the deadline, so it got cancellef) It'd be pretty interesting to see what would've happened then, wouldn't it?
Malik should be getting more minutes, however he's behind Tim Duncan and Robert Horry so minutes will be hard to come by. He has had problems with Pop also. The Spurs just aren't the place for him, and he will be hard to trade. His minutes and production are down, so it will be harder to trade him with his contract. So the Spurs should be stuck with him unless they pull of a big trade or the Bobcats take him. They should try to make the most out of him. But unless either Tim Duncan or Robert Horry goes, and Tim Duncan's going nowhere, Malik wont have much of a chance to prove himself and will just rot away on the bench. He can play, but he just wont be getting the minutes he deserves in San Antonio with their current roster.
... IF Duncan finally decides to take the 5spot, Rose could play power Forward... You guys would have a hell of a frontcourt with those 2 in the starting line-up
Well at times they are both on the court so its not like We havent seen that before but i like Duncan as th PF he dominates at his position and i like to see another big man in there so Duncan can get more help scoring under the rim.Rasho isnt cutting it Malik would be a great off the bench if Pop just gives him some more play'n min's.
Malik Rose should stay. I don't care what anyone says, he is a huge part of the heart and soul of the team simply because of the effort and hustle he brings and puts on the table. No one else on the team really does that except for Ginobili. He's a great guy loved by Duncan and the fans, great rebounder and decent scorer, he's happy and does well with what "little" minutes you tend to give him now. I'd only be happy if he left if was going to be used. Otherwise, why rid yourselves of such a nice fella'?
I've always liked Malik Rose a lot, and I hated seeing him rot on the bench in the playoffs while Horry danced around the court. I hope he ends up on another team next year so he can get more minutes and hopefully jumpstart his career again. I think he'd be perfect for a team like Atlanta where they need a couple of years to rebuild. Although I like Chris Crawford a lot down there as their starting PF, I think he Rose could fit into the rotation nicely there and provide solid numbers. Although I'm sure he'd perfer a winning team, it beats getting 5 DNP's in a row.
i think it will be a big loss for the spurs. he plays hard whenever he is on the floor and plays with passion. if he doesnt stay in SA and i was the Nets GM; i'd call rose's agent pronto and try and get him in new jersey. not everybody in the nba is a hardworker and does the little things with effort anymore. the little things help ya win the big thing. him and pops need to sit and talk and come to an agreement that they both want to win another title and that rose needs sa/pop and pop needs rose on sa. but usually when there is a player vs coach situation, the person with more cred and who has a better relationship with management stays. so it seems like rose will get the boot. at least get a draft pick or something for him.
