A caller the other day on Stong @ Night mentioned something I hadn't thought of before when he said that he thought the Blazers would sign Hedo but he wouldn't be for us but for someone else. A link here today to Barrett's blog mentioned the same thing and to think outside the box.

What are the rules for a sign and trade? Can the person signing the contract be signed then traded to another team immediately? Without their knowledge? I'm wondering if we're hard after Hedo but for some other team that Hedo wouldn't necessarily want to go to.

I suck at the cap and signing rules so please be gentle.

Barret was asked about that, and he said it would be a future move, in his reply. That just makes no sense to me. Why would you look to sign Hedo, have him here until December 15th, adn then trade him, after he has played 1 month of the season already with your team. Talk about messing up chemistry. Just doesn't make sense.

Hmmm.. I read MB's blog and that's the first I've ever read of a loophole like that where if you work it into the contract, it's legal. Why have the CBA rules then.

    Sign Hedo...trade for Prince/Maxiell?

What if Portland signed Hedo and then packaged him with Outlaw, Blake and picks or rights to Euros for Prince and Maxiell? I'm just wondering if maybe Portland wants Hedo as an asset for trades. Can someone tell me how that works out as far as the restrictions?

I will be honest I'm not super happy with the Hedo idea it worries me for some nagging reason. Maybe it's his work ethic maybe its something else but some part of me worries about it.

I would rather sign Ariza and Millsap and stick it to Utah and LA while shoring up our team.

Thoughts folks? Can someone tell me how to delete this post? I can't seem to find the delete option....

Whoops I hadn't read this thread. I will delete my similar post.

...thoughts are that this will never happen [mainly due to the rules governing free agency and the NBA trades etc]

    Re: Sign Hedo...trade for Prince/Maxiell?

Well...it's possible to do a sign and trade with a player who isn't currently on your roster if you tell him he's being signed with the intent to trade him. But to Detroit? They're one of the teams that could sign him for what he wants...so why would Detroit do that? If they think Blake and Outlaw are a better deal than Prince and Maxiell...maybe they'd do it. But I don't think I'd do that if I were Detroit. I don't know...maybe.

But I could definitely see something similar happening with another team.

Allegedly Sacramento contacted Turkoglu last night and they don't have the cap space to sign him for what he wants. But looking at their roster, I don't see a ton that we would want. Nocioni? He's not even as good as Turkoglu. Kevin Martin is a nice scorer, but he's not a point guard.

Perhaps there's a three way deal out there?

It absolutely can be done if you tell the player he's signing with the intent to trade him.

...or better yet, because it doesn't even make sense to do that with Detroit

    Nocioni would a tragic pickup.

Please never mention this again. I threw up in my mouth a little when I first read it.

    Re: Sign Hedo...trade for Prince/Maxiell?

You cannot sign and trade another teams free agent. The Magic are the only team that can sign and trade Turkoglu.

If Turk was signed he could be traded in December after the trade restriction period ends.

If the Blazers wanted Prince they could absorb his contract with their cap space in a trade which would give Detroit extra room to make Hedo an offer.

Hey Mods can you merge this with Talmans below? They are basically the same and I posted later.

    Edit:

    Thanks mods :)
