with Phillip Rivers? When is this kid going to get a chance? Drew Brees is doing so well and he isn't old either. Will Rivers ever get to show his true potential?

I'm assuming it will be somebody on the defense because their secondary sucks.
Their not going to trade Rivers. The prorating of his signing bonus is enough of a reason why they will not trade it. Weather San Diego likes it or not, Drew Brees will be gone next season.
This is Brees last year on his contract? Or they're just gonna dish him off b/c they want Rivers to play?
they're not getting rid of brees... its called the could trade him, or at spring training, they could CUT him, bye bye bank roll, no money lost and hello resigning drew brees...

If he is cut OR TRADED, he would count for somewhere around $12 Million in dead cap money. Plus the money they are going to have to pay Drew Brees to keep him around is going to be enormous, something like 70 million over 7 years. There is no way that the Chargers can afford to pay the money it takes to cut Rivers and pay Drew Brees without crippleing the rest of their cap. Therefore: Phillip Rivers = 2006 Chargers Starting QuarterbackDrew Brees = 2006 Browns? Starting Quarterback

That means that if he is cut OR TRADED this offseason, his entire signing bonus that is left (at least 12 million) would be prorated onto this years salary cap (unless they cut him after June 1st and then it would be split among the next 2 years cap hits). Either way, the Chargers would have to pay Phillip Rivers an huge amount of money against the salary cap with nothing in return, also known as dead money. The dead money on Rivers' deal would be too great to handle while building a great team around him so they are going to have to let Brees go and let Rivers play.

Brees is gonna take off, which isn't a bad thing at all for San Diego, cuz Rivers is a really good QB. They have alot of young talent on that team w/ Gates, Tomlinson and Rivers on the offense, and they have no reason to keep Brees if they spent that 1st round pick on Rivers. Who knew Brees would turn out so good? Can't play both of them at once, so go w/ the guy you're paying a buttload of $$$ to be on your team.
