Rip City Radio--in light of Wes' multiple media appearances this weekend--was discussing his contract possibilities this morning, and mentioned how every fan has a line in his mind for contract values above which he would be OK with the Blazers not equaling. They also agree that everyone probably has a sliding scale based on years.

    For me:
    1 year--$15M
    2 years--$25M/2 ($12.5M/y)
    3 years--$30M/3 ($10M/y)
    4 years--$36M/4 ($9M/y)

If you got to spend PA's money on Wes, what are the highest contract values you'd be willing to match for him?

Doesn't matter what we will offer him, I bet a GM out there is going to offer Wes 4yrs at $13-14mill per year. The real question is should the Blazers match such an offer?

If I were Portland, I would do it. If there is a player that has the ability to come back 100% it's Matthews. I mean the dude wanted to walk off on his own when injured.

I would hate for him to go to some WC team and torch us for 30 a game! You know he'd be up for it too.

NBA GMs are going to make stupid offers to players these next couple of years with the salary cap taking such a huge jump. Then during the next contract negotiation with the players union they will ask for two contract amnesties to save their jobs from the mistakes they made.

Matthews is not going to come back 100% from that injury. It's his attitude and toughness that makes his valuable.

It's tough, if LMA comes back you have to bring Wes back. If LMA is gone you have to look at going in a different direction.

You're right, that is the real question.

Amazingly enough, that's the exact question I asked.

I just don't think the Blazers will have a chance to match a 1 or 2 year offer.

It depends on Aldridge. If Aldridge is gone, I wouldn't match an offer on Wes. If he stays, I'd match whatever up to about 12.

Your numbers seem pretty reasonable. But I would need assurance that he will recover fully.

TBH, to me, the decision on Wes doesn't hinge on LA. Even if he leaves, I think we can work around that void and fill it quickly with a somewhat comparable player. Adding Wes is paramount regardless.

I don't think Aldridge will be leaving Portland, so that's why I think we should bring back Wes.

I definitely agree that if Aldridge leaves, then we get rid of Lopez, Batum and Wes. Then bring in youth to build around Lillard.

I match whatever for Wes. I don't really care if Aldridge leaves, but I don't want to lose Matthews.

Two years with a team option the second year would be my choice given the nature of his injury.

Whatever the market decides I suppose. I'd guess they will get a chance to beat any offer but who knows.

I agree, The Blazers know all about Wesley's kind of injury, There will be a team that's willing to offer Wes more than what the Blazers are willing to offer.
