Enes Kanter's mis-conception on defense that derails him to being an utter liability and to a negative plus-minus in each and every game he played for us, is actually quite simple and easy to fix:
He simply stays with his man on defense, no matter what. His man goes to the 3-point line, he goes with him. his man takes him to somewhere behind the basket, he goes with him. This totally cancels his ability, as our Center, to protect the rim. When he plays we have no rim protection whatsoever, just a clear lane to the basket for any opposing player.
So what he needs to do? fix his priorities on defense. Protect the rim 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Staying with his man is also a priority but if the opposing Center goes far away from under the basket it becomes less and less a priority anyway.
Don't be fooled like that again, Enes. Defend the paint, protect the rim.

His priority on defense is up to Stotts and the game plan itself. He's just following orders.

And mods can this be merged with his other Kanter thread?

You reply to a thoughtful post on an acute subject with what? a simply worthless insight about Stotts being the coach and Kanter just following orders? You think Stotts told him to defend like that?
And then you ask the mods to merge this post? This post, as I said, is very important to our success. Right now we have a backup Center, playing 20 minutes per game, that had a negative plus-minus in EVERY GAME HE PLAYED! you don't think it is important for our success to realise what he's doing wrong?
I hope you delete your reply and no offense, but I hope you never reply to me again

LMAO, now I'm going to reply to every one of your posts, maybe even multiple times.

Stotts has a very stupid way he wants his bigs to defend the pick and roll. Kanter is simply trying to defend the way Stotts is instructing him to. Unfortunately he doesn't have the instincts that Nurk (or really any other center) have so it makes it look like he has no clue what he is doing. This is 100% on the coach. Why don't we try having Kanter hard hedge a pick instead of waiting back and then recovering back to his man? The answer is that the coach doesn't like that philosophy.

One thing Kanter and all our center need to realize who there center are OKC centers is no threat to shoot 3 points shot so you don't need guard them 30 feet away.

I agree that we probably shouldn't be dropping Kanter (although he's had some good moments executing this coverage), but to say in general that it's a dumb way to defend the pnr is something I (and most nba coaches) would strongly disagree with.

And regardless of what coverage you think is best to use with Kanter, playing him with Rodney and Jake at the 3/4 is what I take issue with most.

That front court combination has little chance to defend.

I kind of disagree (only kind of), Stotts PNR scheme is annoying and unwavering, and hard for both the guards and the bigs. To me though Kanters defense has been bad everywhere regardless of scheme and it comes down to really slow reactions and bad instincts on defense. Im not really sure there is a “fix” for it, besides a whole lot of film study.

Kanter sure doesnt have the natural skillset to play in Stotts scheme, but Im not sure he has the defensive skillset right now to play in any scheme. He gets lost a lot even with a PNR.
I thought he was slightly better last night, but still not good.

Another personal insult from a poster who is known to do such things.
Language barrier excuse can only be used for so long before he has to take accountability for his posts.

Again this poster decides to throw insults when others disagree with him.

Telling someone they don't use their brain is an insult, yes.
All because someone disagreed with the OP.

Now if he would've said their post doesn't have a brain or referred to the post in any way.
Grey area of this site allows such a comment.
OP needs to learn how to play the game.

My problem with the PnR defense of Stotts is that we usually run the same coverage over and over again. I'm a big fan of changing it up randomly so the offense doesn't know what's going to happen every time down the court. I think this is a big reason why we struggle against good teams and in the playoffs where this is exploited.

I honestly dont understand why our defensive schemes are literally the same over and over... I mean once in a while you’ll see someone do something different but it seems more like a spur of the moment player decision rather than scheme.

Well it's true that the Beavers suck at football right now. I hope they turn it around someday.

As for Mullens, it doesn't really matter if he's better since they are on the same team so since Jimmy G is good if Mullens is better it would be great.

If the Beavers used the spread option more with Smith, like WSU has done effectively, they will get better.
