Sorry just kidding. There is no source or anything. Just a conclusion after some reasonable pondering (I was bored at a 4 hour d-hall). LOL. I feel bad for that one... Well, I honestly believe he isn't coming back. I think he will be retiring, because these injuries and surgeries are really bad on him. Each time he undergoes surgery it knocks a notch off of his play. Why else would we really need Rafer? James could cover for 2 months right? Just in time for Sura to return. Either he is not coming back, or he won't be able to start. I was leaning towards not being able to start until I heard of the Rafer trade. How the hell could we just let a new PG take over the team 2 months into the season? If he comes back I do not think he will start. Even IF his surgery goes well and IF he can come in and take over the team successfully and IF he can be at least 85% after surgery. What's stopping him from getting injured again? Isn't that hurting the team, letting him start, not start, start. That will get to Rafer and hurt us in the long run (and w/ team chem). I LOVE SURA'S AGGRESIVENESS, PASSION, AND HEART. I wish him well, and hope he can return to take over this team successfully and be injury free for the rest of the season.
I think Sura will be back and I'm positive about it. I read Clutch's(CF) report on the second day of the training camp that he was surprise to see Sura though he didn't participate in the drills other than dribbling and joking around.
I don't think the brass made the Alston move in anticipation of Sura's retirement. Rafer Alston is a visible upgrade over Mike James and almost any GM proposed with such a move will consider it. Even when Sura returns, we would have a stronger PG rotation and have two veterans who are multi-faceted. If Dawson knows that Sura is retiring, then I would guess that he would look at other PGs, as Alston and Norris for a whole season won't cut it.
Actually Locke, CD said that if Sura's injury hadnt occurred, then the team would have never entertained the thought of trading for Alston...Alston and Norris are the lone true PGs on the team, but CD also sees DA, McGrady, Wesley, and Barry as bringing the ball up at times if necessary as well...
While Head will most ilkely play a combo-guard role, he is another option to backup Rafer when we need it.
Sura has said that the doctors told him there's a 30% chance he won't be able to come back. So it's not out of the question.
