I think you have to go Clyde at #14. A franchise player at #14 is pretty awesome.

Honorable mention to Arvydas Sabonis at #24. IF he would have came over in his prime, I think Portland would have had multiple championships. Would have put us over the hump in the 1990 and maybe the 1992 finals.

Dollar Bill. Without him we have zero titles. There is no such thing as Blazermania

Okay, it's got to be Clyde.

I've got to go with MM. Big Red is why the Blazers won their only title.

    Go Blazers

Ya, but Bill was supposed to be good.... he was the #1 pick..... not as impressed as a later pick with less expectations that steps up. Or what about Petro? Because of him, we were able to get Buck right?

Crazy thing about Sabonis....... he had actually been drafted by Atlanta the year before right?

Yes with the 77th pick. It was later voided because he was under the age of 21.

Larue Martin. If Portland would have drafted McAdoo we would not have sucked the following year which means we would not have gotten Bill or the top players from the ABA the year they went under.

OK I agree with the Drexler choice.

Kind of related question, how and why were there so many rounds in the draft until 1987?

I would imagine it was because teams simply didn't have the ability to scout as many players as they can now. Tape simply didn't exist on lots and lots of good players, and giving more rounds for teams to reach for guys, bring them into camp, and then see if they stuck seems to make sense.

No minor league. The Eastern League existed but wasn't reliable or subsidized.

    No. No. And No.

    Drexler.

    Sabonis second.

Walton was great, but he was a super obvious pick. So, he wasn't a great pick, it was just great timing to get the #1 pick.

Check out some of the old Blazer draft picks in the 6th,7th rounds..... It's awesome. They used to take guys from Linfield and Lewis and Clark and shit like that. I think Dave Winfield and guys like Carl Lewis used to get drafted as well.(not by us)
