For me it's Dan Patrick. He has good guests, he and his crew are funny, and he's self-effacing. Rome kind of bores me now and I can't stand the local guys.
I like Dan Patrick for the reasons you gave, although the (faux?) arrogance and constant ESPN bashing get old. (I also like the fact that it's looped, so I can listen to it any time of the day). I like Jay Mohr, because it's different--he's more interested in being entertaining than informative or profound. He also interacts with his guys well, has them as an important part of the show. Plus, he makes a point of trying to be positive, and I think we need more of that in society. Another guy who's "different" is Brian Kenny (6-9 am on NBCSportsRadio). He's an analytics guy, and talks a lot about baseball. He generally has a different take than the rest of sports media, although his arrogance can also get annoying (basically suggesting how much smarter he is than everyone else because he embraces analytics and the old guard don't). If I'm up early enough, I really like Erik Kuselias (3-6 am on NBCSportsRadio). Dude is brilliant, and he also brings a different perspective than most. He's a total fantasy sports guy, and because of this he will bring things out that you never thought of (the other day talked about how 80% of rookie RB's who rush for 1000+ do worse in their second season--I had no idea). But he's also a lawyer, so he's good at looking at topics from multiple different angles and presenting unique views. Locally, I like Isaac and Suke. They don't take themselves seriously, they mock everyone, and will delve into random topics at the drop of a hat. It's more like listening in on a conversation at a sports bar than listening to the blowhards on most shows.
DP is great. I also like Isaac and Suke. Both shows are entertaining and mix in good banter and humor b
I listen through my phone via the TuneIn radio app. NBCSportsRadio also has its own app, but it's unnecessary if you have TuneIn.
My favorites are the dp show, I think it's the best one period. Best guests, and yeah the crew is awesome. My other favorite is Ben Maller Friday and Saturday nights from 10-3 on 620. The callers are hilarious
Yeah, but they only play Dan Schwartzman overnight 10pm-2am, and then replay it again from 2am-6am. Can't get EK or BK on Portland radio.
To me, that's like asking which state has my favorite DMV. IMO, they all suck. They haven't been good in awhile, ruined by wannabe's and barely there ex-players who are rated on who can be the biggest blowhard. Sorry, but not my cup of tea.
I'm curious--what is it that you want out of a sports radio show? Not that I'm saying that there are any that would provide it, but I'm just wondering what would make a sports radio show good to you.
Yeah, after I posted it, I realized it was a pretty douchey post. I thought about deleting it, but decided I needed to take some shit for being a jackass. Part of the problem is that there really isn't enough to discuss when it comes to "sports radio", so they reach to create controversy. Basically, they troll their listeners, being controversial just to piss someone off. When I listen to sports radio, it's something like a pre or post game show, or a special event, like the draft. If I were to listen to a sports radio show, it would have to be thoughtful and somewhere where people didn't yell or pre-write "takes" like the Rome Clones. If I could be educated during the broadcast, that would be great. I love Xs and Os shows. Again, I shouldn't have posted in a thread where I don't listen to the genre. It was a dickish move.
No worries. You might like the Brian Kenny show--if you have time to listen between 7-10 am Mountain Time. He fits the description of someone who might educate you; like I posted below, he's really big into analytics, so you get a different take than most of the clones and blowhards. Also, have you listened much to Scott Van Pelt & Ryan Rusillo? ESPN radio, 11am-2pm Mountain Time. I could see them fitting in to your criteria as well.
SVP and Rusillo ain't bad. The DP Show is the best, IMO. DP is so down to earth. Just like a bud you'd wanna grab a beer or 10 with. And the Danette's add some humor and fill-in to the show. It just seems like laid-back, honest, have-some-fun crew, but still professional. I'm tired of Rome's schtick. Now, if there's an interview to be heard, and event that just happened and a star or key athlete in that event is going to be interviewed, you know it's on Rome. So, I do tune in occasionally.
I really like Issac and Suke they are my favorite. Kenny Vance was pretty good when he was on. Canzano and Chaz aren’t good but those new guys on 1080 are the worst. I feel awkward listening to them talk. Agree Dan Patrick is great national show but its real nice having some Blazer and Pac12 news. I’m not a baseball fan so its tough this time of year. I can't stand Jim Rome I never listen to him, half the things he says aren’t even words ERRR. Cowherd is annoying I feel like he looks down on everyone else; but I do like his around the nation thing he does when he rapid fire interviews a bunch of local reporters. SVP is okay. I agree hosts just saying stuff they don’t believe to stir up crap or play devils advocate is annoying, we can do that on our own.
Can--and do. I wonder what a radio show consisting of 3 guys reading various posts from this board would sound like... Never mind; I just imagined it, and turned it off after about 30 seconds.
