What rules would you change in the league?

If you were given full rule over the NBA, what would you change?

I'm talking about anything; implementing a different dress code, changing the fact that you must go to college. Even changing in-game rules like 4 point play? Harsher penalties of flopping etc etc

I'd get rid the bullshit stipulation that the "better" you are, the more calls you get. Sun Ming Ming should be able to drive to the basket and get the same "respect" (hate that concept) that Dwayne, or Kobe, or Lebron does.

The superstar call needs to go.

I don't like the new hand check rules. It was better when guys could use two hands to play defense.

Allow more incidental contact to take place in a game. Officials always feel obligated to blow the whistle when they see someone on the floor.

Allow more physical plays. Just let 'em play!

Watch the travel calls more (tho they are getting better at that).

I agree with both of the above, no more "superstar treatment".

Flopping receives a tech. I hate that shit. It's unfair, and complete BS.

Take out that stupid circle thing down low. Charges should be allowed anywhere, as long as the feet are set.

How bout allowing one challenge a game, like football? Just a thought.

Allow more shit talking. I don't know about you guys, but I love it. It seems to get some players hyped up, and it's a great strategy for other players to use.

Expand the "farm system" in the NBDL. Make it a viable option for anyone who wants to make it in the NBA, and use it to keep players from going overseas. Also, give NBA teams more control over their respective teams.

This would sound really crazy but I would take 4 seconds off the shot clock, down to 20 per possession. Faster pace.

Reform the NBDL so it can actually be used as a development league.

No technicals for showing emotion, e.g. punching the padded thing behind the net (I forget what it's called [IMG]). Players with emotion >>>>>>> players without.

More contact. Why not? This is a sport and these guys should be tough athletes. No need to protect them when one guy just touches their arm.

Raise the rim. Back when the game was invented, 10ft was a good height because pretty much no-one could reach it. The game now overly favours those who can get well over it. Raise it, even if just by 6 inches, to get the game back to its purest form.

The CBA is the problem as I see it. Only after spending several seasons restructuring a roster, during which time the team isn't going to be competitive, and a perfect storm of FAs available or superstars available for trade, can a team do what Boston did.

One change I would make would be to allow teams to cut players and not have them count against the cap. This would have given Philly roughly $40M in cap space over 2 years to rebuild its team instead of playing out two seasons with inferior players waiting for CWebb's contract to expire.

I like that. Maybe even one per half.

I wouldn't change the height of the rim though. That would affect everyone's shot, players in the NBA have been shooting at the same rim level for years, no need to change that.

Stopping the endless techs. Is Rasheed any worse than Barkley, Sprewell or Isiah when they were at their most emotional? No. Refs also need to be held more publically accountable for poor calls. Man am I sick of league wide inconsistancies when it comes to simple interpretations of hand-check and charging rules and the differing amounts of contact that will or wont be called.

What would I change? Higher pay for refs that was performance based. People like Joey Crawford would end up with only $5,000 for a season but with greater incentive to do the right thing, we might actually attract better referees. College players who are smart but not athletic, maybe some international refs. Making it more competetive and inticing would improve the standard of our game.

In the NRL is australia, there is a mid season week off. In that week all refs on the payroll have to convene, talk and 'workshop'. Makes the standard more consistant and addresses any problems arising. In the 3 seasons it has been in effect, with a 4-10 day 'camp' at the beginning, middle and end of the season the game itself has been officiated far better. The referees co-ordinator picks who refs where and has often openly criticised poor games from some refs. Increases accountability.

Im sick of this part of the NBA

Wow, all of that just sounds perfect. Like, too good to actually happen. I'd love to see it, because right now, refs in the NBA and NCAA suck ass.
