Rudy Gay - scorer and potential star in the league. Trading him for Shane Battier (solid player, tough, good defender) was not smart. Van Gundy teaches defense, Rudy has defense as well and is bigger, longer, and more athletic than Battier. He has great upside and could become a star. I was shocked when they announced this trade, and I think this was a terrible move.
That was just fu*kin stupid to me, it made no sense. Rudy Gay is athletic, hes a scorer, and he can run the open floor. The Rockets need that, they were in the bottom part of the league in scoring, they needed someone like Gay to help in that matter. Now, trading him for Battier? That will keep it a low scoring team that plays boring basketball, bad move by Dawson.
Yeah, i'm not to sure about this either, trading a talented and athletic player like Rudy Gay with so much potential for Shane Battier. Perhaps they figured that Battier was ready to play now, compared to Gay who isn't, and wanted the person that can play now. With Yao starting to hit his stride right now, and Mcgrady's future back problems a question maybe thats why they took Battier. I'm guessing next year we will see a starting lineup of Alston at the Point, Mcgrady at the two, Battier at the 3, Howard at the 4 and Yao at center. Shouldn't be too bad of a team for next year.
i like this move, it gives us veteran leadership and much-needed defense. of course i wouldn't of minded rudy gay either.. but i think this is best. the good outweighs the bad. but if he does turn out to be a huge star. i'll be banging my head against the wall.
Isn't the deal already done and includes Swift. But I think their getting bagged on a little, first Gay still needs seasoning and experience. I fully do not expect him to come into the league and be a star. The Rockets are built to win now and Battier will come in and be ready. Gay will not, he's a future star. It's a move by Rockets to win now, rather then build later. That's what I'm seeing. Also, Gay is the perfect fit for the Grizzlies, now they have two guys who don't have a killer instinct. :happy0144:

TMac/Yao/Gay...Wow..that could be sick in a few yearsGay brings versatility and he can defend, score inside, but most of hes got the potential to be a superstar in this league. I just dont get why they'd want to trade Stro and Gay for Battier.
They may be built to win now but this in no way propels them into serious contention. If they would've picked Gay then in a few years they could've made a serious run... TMac and Yao aren't exactly old.
Very, very bad decision. Hell, Swift for Battier is a bad trade IMO. Swift has much untapped potential, and he still has better averages than Battier, despite less playing time. And trading away a possible all star forward is a terrible move...They need to get JVG out of there, get another big man and shooter, and run an offense that exploits there offensive potential.
Stupid move. The Rockets dont have much young talent. I bet every fan was leaping with joy when they still saw Rudy Gay on the board for the 8th pick. And then Dawson throws away the most talented kid in the draft for a role player veteran. I mean, Shane Battier is a very good player who can do everything, but we're talking about a potential superstar that they could have had here..Huge dissapointment to Rocket fans here..I bet Carrol Dawson will be fired..
Not sure he will be fired over this, Battier will be a nice player for them. It will be tough to swallow when Battier is at home watching Gay in the ASG in a few years though.
I don't think gay will be that good....i saw him at uconn, did not impress me.....to say the least....
