What would be the going rate of Pietrus on the market?

I'd have to think somewhere between Prince, Dunleavy and Butler. 5 yrs/40 million. The only way that we could even afford that would be to Trade Fish or Foyle for cap relief.

Even if we did do that, it wouldn't make any sense to extend him unless we Move Murph to 5, Dun to the 4, Pietrus to 3 and rich/baron at the guard positions. He was looking good before his injury and if he can learn to play in a system, he could be one of the best players on the roster. DON"T GO PIETRUS!!!

Yeah I want to keep Pietrus for sure. I'd say Foyle is more expendable than Fisher. Both are overpaid, but Fisher has been more valuable lately and Foyle's mins have gone down. I have no idea how Foyle averaged ~30 pts in college.

I too think Foyle will be expendable by next year. Before this season I would have said ship Fish and keep Foyle because he is our only shot blocking threat down low. This season Foyle doesnt play much and Taft, Biedrins, and Diogu have proven that they can play. Fisher has decreased the stupid decisions this year and is shooting 50% from 3 point land, plus he hits shots when we need them.

I still think chances of us re-signing Pietrus are slim. Unless we get expiring contracts for Foyle and Fish and we dont plan on signing alot of our other young players then we'll probably let him go or sign and trade for a cheap player and pick (a la the JJ trade). I love Pietrus (got a throwback jersey of him at the beginning of the summer) but I would rather keep Biedrins, Diogu and Taft. I dont think it would be difficult to replace Pietrus, by the time his contract expires we may already have a replacement in Monta and then we could draft or sign a backup defensive SF who can also guard SGs.

It's 2 yrs before we may need to deal with MP as a restricted. By then he may be a 20ppg starter. In 2 yrs he also might have had a major injury and be a little less than his current self.

We will need to make our deciscions on Monta and Taft by then,as they were not rd 1. I just don't see this pervasive sense of doom about Pietrus. I see the line that we just can't afford Pietrus....then there's a thread where we trade a lot to get KG. KG makes more money per year than Belgium does. The W's did NOT try to lowball the guys we have signed. If there is a master plan where we lock up Dun,Foyle,Murph etc, generally without anyone even testing the market-why would we now turn off the tap and blow off our next 3 rd 1 picks when their time comes?

It has to be Fisher, if we ever plan to sign Pietrus. You just can't expect a team to go far, when they spend 50 mils on guards with basically entire cap and expect to succeed, not to mention Murphy isn't exactly a power player.

    Davis - 15 mils
    Richardson - 12 mils
    Fisher - 6 mils
    Pietrus - 8 mils
    Dunelavy - 9 mils

Also, if Foyle goes, who will replace him? You have to remember that Biedrins, Diogu and Taft's rookie contracts will end pretty quickly and we also have to resign them. Signing Pietrus for Foyle's salary pretty much sealed their career with Warriors too, since we can't spare that much money to begin with.

If we didn't lowball Murphy, Richardson and Dunleavy, what's the reason for us to not to go creazy on Pietrus, Biedrins and Diogu? Simply because Cohan is not Cuban. Cohan is a business man, who is capable of suing life long friend and business partner for money. And, while he has been generous with Warriors, he didn't show a hint that he will just open the flood gate and go wild either. And, because all of Foyle, Fisher, Richardson, Murphy and Dunleavy signs are under the budget (yes, Mullin inherited awfully good financial condition), Cohan approved those signings. And, I have to say Mullin is more toward "let's spend everything I can for today's benefit then plan for a long term, then let's worry future problem later" type of guy, because we basically have no salary flexibility now with his spending spree. However, signing of Pietrus, Biedrins and Diogu will probably be over the budget Cohan imagined, and when that time comes, I just don't have a confidence that Cohan will approve those signings. I would love to be wrong in this matter, and it really is unknown area for Warriors fans, because we never spend this much. But, until proven wrong, I have to maintain the realistic view based on past history...

How about a three way trade with the Knicks and Bulls?

    Warriors receive Tim Thomas
Knicks receive Adonal Foyle & Derek Fisher & Chris Taft
    Bulls receive Antonio Davis

antonio davis can't be traded to the bulls, you can't trade a player back to the team he was traded from w/in the same season

I guess you'd assume it'd be either another rookie contract (In the draft) or a Vet minimum and trade one of those guys. Of course if you made the original trade you'd essentially be saying that the Bench guys aren't good enough, but then you'd have nobody to play center now. Hmm.. Catch 22. Doesn't sound like a viable move for a GM that is interested in keeping his job

Do you have a source for that? I thought you could trade after a certain period of time within the same season.

I believe he is right. You have to wait 90 days for being traded again, and you can't trade back to your previous team for a year...

Thanks for the correction. It sounded right, I just wasn't sure. Shape maybe thought it didn't apply either.
