I know its early, but I say anything short of the playoffs would be a disappointment. I just want to be in the thick of things until the very end and I believe we finally have the team to do it.

Not making PO. Yes, PO seemed to be our goal every single year, but this year is different. Anything short of PO would be considered as a major disappointment and potentially a deathblow to the club...

Yeah, I agree Rudeezy. If the warriors don't make the playoffs, I'm not sure if I could stomach it, but I go into every season thinking the same thing, and they always disappoint me. I'm just praying that Baron doesn't get hurt.

I wouldn't be disappointed if we didn't make the playoffs. What kind of topic is this? [IMG]

I mean what fan wouldn't want to see our franchise break a new record in most consecutive seasons absent from the post season. Wait, didn't we break that record yet?

Yeah we must AT LEAST make the 8th seed this year. To be honest with you I am not expecting the 8th seed, I am expecting 3-6 seeding if everyone stays healthy. I expect us to be like last year's Phoenix Suns or Seattle Supersonics. I also will be disappointed if when we make the playoffs we get swept. I am hoping to make it to the second round of the playoffs this year....

Lol, second round? I think that's pushing it too far. I'm not a Warriors fan, but if Baron Davis was relatively healthy the whole year and they still missed the playoffs, that would be very dissapointing.

Please, tell me why you think your opinion to mine is superior? I dont think there is anything wrong with being optimistic. Who would we be seeded against? San Antonio, Phoenix and possibly Sacramento or Seattle. Why dont you go look at our record against teams like those last year and tell me what it is. I know for a fact we went on a tear at the end of the year last year when Baron Davis was starting and healthy where we beat Sacramento, Seattle, Phoenix and Houston all on their own home courts. Tell me again why it is not realistic with the whole team being healthy and the development of all of our young players waiting in the fold how we could not upset some team this year in the playoffs? Remember, NJ back when they got Jason Kidd? That is basically how this team is with Baron Davis. Remember last year with Nash going to the Suns, that again is how I feel the Warriors will be this year. Screw the 6-8 seed I want 3-5 realistically...

    hype

The newly found warriors hype is funny to me. They went on a run in the second half of last year when the pressure and expectations were ZERO. Who on the team is a proven winner besides Fish? It's so much speculation. Don't forget players do their best work when they LEAVE Golden State not when they come here. Larry Hughes is the latest example. Don't get me wrong Golden State are a LOT of fun to watch, what could be better than watching a Baron Davis J-Rich backcourt with some athletic small forwards but their chances against Phoenix, San Antonio, etc. are VERY slim.

The new found Warriors hope/hype isn't funny it's Baron Davis. A great player like Baron can have major impact on a team. Where the hell was New Jersey before Jason Kidd arrived and where the hell was phoenix before Steve Nash arrived. The Warriors are instantly legit with Baron Davis in the lineup.

I'll be disappointed if Montgomery doesn't get his act together.

I'll be disappointed if Dunleavy doesn't step up this year and be a consistent scorer inside and out.

I'll be disappointed if Pietrus hasn't worked on his handle.

I'll be disappointed if I get stuck in a traffic jam and I miss the first quarter.

I'll be disappointed if the pizza arrives late.

Hype? You bet there is. After all, if your team finish the season with 18-10 with Davis and 15-4 (79%) with Davis starting in non pressure situation, the expectation is bounded to be very high. So, do I expect this team to maintain 79% and win 65 games? Of course not. But, do I expect this team to fall flat and not make PO? If your team adds a superstar, and that team is starting to win immidiately, whether there is a pressure or not, it's also unreasonable to imagine that the team will same as what it has been in the past, because the circumstance has been changed and the team answered in positive way. That's why I believe this team can win 48 games and break PO streak.

There used to be a time when talents left this club and flourished in other clubs. Yes, Hughes made his career in Wiz, because we chose Richardson over Hughes. So, do we miss Hughes? Not really. And, I am certain we don't miss Hughes as much as Wiz miss Hughes. And who else? Dampier? Fortson? Arenas? Jamison? Cardinals? None of those guys really did their 'best works' with other clubs, since their best days were with us. Besides, what exactly is the point of bringing this in first place, when we lost zero talent in this season and this has nothing to do with whether this club will make PO in 05-06 season or not?

I think that anything higher than the sixth seed for the warriors is a lttle unrealistic. They've really improved and probably will make the playoffs, but winning their division is out of the question. Even though the Suns lost JJ and Q, they are still a very good team and shouldn't have much trouble winning the division. Sacramento is always a great regular season team, and with those two really strong teams in the division, the third seed seems unattainable. I would expect the warriors to grab the sixth or seventh seed pretty easily. While Baron may be a huge addition, hes not enough to take that team to a high playoff seed and a long playoff run.

Was it realistic to pick the Pistons to win the NBA championship 3 years ago? Not in the slightest, but that became more realistic when they picked up Rasheed Wallace...

If a franchise player like Baron Davis stays healthy, anything is possible. We've also got a lot more inside players this season and if they turn out to be effective within the paint, we could very well go long distance in the playoffs if not first round early exit. The Suns sucked the year before, same with the Bulls, same with the Sonics, same with a lot of teams that were having their share of struggles, but they made it passed the first round based on talent. Just because the Warriors have been absent from the playoffs for 11 seasons doesn't mean it's the same team from the past 11 seasons. It's definitely a new team with Baron Davis making everyone on the team better and us having drafted well in the last three years and finding a team direction based on a core of young talent. We've also had some continuity for once in the roster and some big men that can turn out to be studs. So believe that some of the Warriors hype is justified.

Bobcats, sorry man when you laugh at somebody that's serious about what they're saying and you're coming from a different team, you gotta carry yourself more diplomatically and agree to disagree. This is a forum where some are optimistic about predictions while others are pessimistic, next time don't laugh but ask questions why they think the way they do rather than just ridicule someone by typing "lol" in the posts. And just take things with a grain of salt. The Rockets and Cavaliers think they can win a championship this year and although I have my doubts, I'd never laugh at what any of those fans would have to say because 1.) I don't follow the Rockets the way they do. 2.) Anything could happen. 3.) T-mac and Yao are franchise players and Ray Allen is a franchise player (with allstars like Rashard Lewis and a good promising guard like Luke Ridnour). A combo of Baron Davis, Jason Richardson, and whichever one of our rookies/3rd year vets breaks out could very well be enough to get over the hump and go far like those teams did. (Then let's not forget that teams such as the Bulls, Pistons, Grizzlies can still get to the playoffs (even far if they weren't seed a certain way) because of good teamwork despite them not having any true franchise players). The Warriors got some pretty good teamwork, just not the inside or defensive presence yet, but we might have it this year.

Anyway most of the Warriors posters here are already acclimated to one another and know who is being overzealous, super optimistic, realstic, pessimistic and whatnot. We just don't say anything because we already know it's an opinion and it's nothing harmful in the way of the facts and actual events. But if it does, please point it out like you are doing, only be nicer and include plenty of detail and case-in-points so we know your arguments are valid and we know where you are coming from. Remember let's try to help the forum by clarifying comments made so its readers can relate and understand. Comments by non-Warrior fans are definitely welcome so long as there is helpfulness and respect towards all of the users.

bryce40ww, why is it unrealistic for the Warriors to go far if they make the playoffs? I'm not saying they will. I'm not giving my own opinion here, but at least explain your reasoning. No offense, but this is the kind of challenges to opinions we don't need here because they're not helpful. At least say why you disagree, why are the Suns are still good even without their top 3(2) and 4(3) scorers, and just use some in-depth analytical skills, facts, observations made rather than conjecture and heresay. You should check out the "around the forum" thread, those guys do their homework before they start challenging comments.

phunDamentalz, what kind of blatantly obvious comments are those about Warriors like Larry Hughes (or Gilbert Arenas) doing better elsewhere. They both played with us as rookies, so don't you think it's obvious that players of talent get better season after season? God forbid they should suck after they've been offered big free agent money from other teams. Like Kwan pointed out, you also failed to point out the fact those were only two cases of Warriors in recent time doing better elsewhere since Dampier, Cardinal, Forston, Jamison pretty much play the way they always have. Neither of those guys are franchise talents. We've never drafted franchise talents since the Mullin days when we landed Chris Webber and Latrell Sprewell, so the Warriors biggest reasons for playing the way they have was because of the way the ping pong balls rolled and because of the picks they drafted coupled with the minute leverage to get supporting players from free agency, the fact we had to overpay to get those players, and then the poor salary cap management to re-sign unresictred free agents like Gilbert Arenas.

Remember, help the conversation, don't hinder it. If something is not clear or just very blunt or is unexplained, then be patient and ask questions. And for people taking the time to post, please be thorough and detailed with fact to back up opinion so people don't think you're coming out of nowhere being haters or homers. Nobody likes either.

Memphis, Sac, Phoenix, and Seattle are all missing one important thing to start the season. Chemistry. They had it last year, and gave it up over the summer. They might get it back, but then again they might not. These teams have huge question marks.

I think Phoenix will be all-right, but you never know when you get rid of 2 quality players, and bring in others.

I'm not saying the Warriors will be better than any of those teams, but I like our chances. We have chemistry to start. Our off season took nothing away, but added new young blood with talent.

If we don't make the playoffs I'll be crushed (like every year). I think the only way we don't make it is with injury.

Great post CR2. What would be most dissapointing this year would be not making the playoffs, with this draft you could see Mullin isn't trying to get future stars, he is getting players that will make an instant impact like Ike. This year our division got a lot weaker; The Lakers aren't going to do much right now, the Clippers always have the talent, and this year they overloaded and will not do too much either, Phoenix lost what made them a great team last year with their run'n'gun offense and got some more defensive players which will help, but will keep them out of being a 55-60 win team, the Kings did what the 2004 Lakers did and got too many stars on their team which will lead to chemistry issues. If the Warriors can't make the playoffs with all the teams getting weaker and us pushing upwards, this will be super dissapointing and will most likely lead to seeing J-Rich being traded

Thanks Air Pietrus (man you keep flip flopping between names). I'd give the Lakers some credit. They got Coach PJ, they've got some interesting players that could break out and they've got Kobe Bryant and Lamar Odom. It will all depend on how healthy they stay and if they've gained some chemistry from last year. Although Chris Mihm and Kwame Brown are decent, they've never been able to live up to expectations. But they could do it this year by some chance. They just need some chemistry and at least one player to make others better. Kobe used to dish out assists early on, play better defense, and I don't know if he can keep up that mentality throughout the entire season.

Clippers have a legit chance to make the playoffs. They just need chemistry. They have a very good coach in Mike Dunleavy. They've also have seen some good things from Shaun Livingston last season before he got injured. What would worry most Clippers fans is that they get the injuries from last year and that they've lost too much chemistry in Marko Jaric and Bobby Simmons. The backcourt of Sam Cassell, Cuttino Mobley might not ever get the ball inside to Elton Brand, Chris Kaman, or Corey Maggette. Defensively, they also might struggle some as Casell is damn slow and Mobley is about two inches shorter than most two guards and is inconsistent on defense (sometimes he's good, sometimes he sucks). Z. Rebraca, Quentin Ross, Waltah McCarty, Chris Wilcox is an all right bench.

I would bet for the warriors a dissappointment would be not to make POs. I think they could snatch 7th or 8th. Its just crazy how they came back last season, who knows how this year will end up.

I predict Phoenix might struggle since Nash is at that age where he could get frequently hurt. He has always been the key to that franchise. I mean Amare Stoudamire will get his points and play with hustle, but he doesn't make the team better. In fact, he's a fantasy killer when he tries to create his own offense. He takes too many shots, doesn't pass, and turns it over a bunch. But they still have some great rebounders and post defenders on that squad. They've got Brian Grant, Kurt Thomas, they've got some great perimeter defenders that can do more than one thing in Shawn Marion, Raja Bell, Boris Diaw. James Jones, Dijon Thompson and Jim Jackson can provide some shooting. The point guard and center depth is pretty weak and the overall perimeter D might not stop transition D if it's a team that likes to run. Don't forget that Brian Grant and Kurt Thomas were only centers in the East, in the West that might not translate as well. They are very good post defenders and rebounders, but are by no means intimidating shotblockers or transition defenders. For that style of play they actually would need a Ben Wallace, Theo Ratliff or a Marcus Camby or just anyone that can hustle and deny an easy layup running the other way. I guess shotblockers like Shawn Marion, Amare Stoudamire and James Jones could help out some.

Grizzlies it's hard to tell... They've got some good pieces and people have doubted them before, but they still were able to play well. Mike Fratello is a good coach. But the grizzlies just lost a good point guard and they've lost James Posey who was like another go-to guy alongside Shane Battier. They've also lost Stromile Swift and replaced him with Hakim Warrick who might not be as effective inside. They've received Eddie Jones who is a talented but streak player on the downside of his career and might not offer the same level of clutchness as once before. Mike Miller is slowly but surely improving, but not all that effective overall. Neither Damon Stoudamire or Bobby Jacksons are pure point guards. Mighty Mouse Stoudamire will probably get posted up every single time and I don't think Pau Gasol has ever been a great defender, despite the shotblocking. Lorenzen Wright is not a true center and seems disgruntled from the way the press paints it. Brian Cardinal is Brian Cardinal, he'll give you an extra posession or two, annoy the other opponent with constant ball pressure, plus scoring within the flow. Rookie Lawrence Roberts could be interesting this season with his rebounding ability (the next Malik Rose, Udonis Haslem or Reggie Evans perhaps). They've also got Dahntay Jones who is a pretty flashy and athletic shooting guard who can drive, defend, block shots, rebound, and score. Pau Gasol is still the closest thing they have to a franchise player with his all around game. I like how he scores with either hand, scores in the low post as well as shoots from midrange, handles the ball some on the drive and he dunks on people. Battier is a great super role player. He's always better than one thinks.

Sacramento always looks good, but we'll see how well they play. They always suffer key injuries though. They definitely have a fab five thing going on. I don't know how well two small forwards in the lineup would fare, but both Peja and Bonzi seem like more all around players now than before and they both can score from everywhere. The Mike Bibby and Brad Miller pick and roll as primary offense seems lethal especially since it can be done with Shareef Abdur Rahim. In addition they can run other stuff like a high double screen or high post plays to get more off the ball movement coming from a pretty athletic Peja and Bonzi. Shareef Abudr Rahim inside can get some easy touch fouls as well as passes out to the wing. When the offense and passing is that good, I guess they don't need to play much D. The bench depth is not that impressive, but decent with Kenny Thomas, Kevin Martin, Brian Skinner, and Jason Hart. I really don't know how effective Maurice Evans was, but I figure no loss. Same with that center they had. I think he's back on the Jazz now.

So its official, anything short of the playoffs is a disappointment. In the years past, we hoped for playoffs but were happy when the team finished on a hot streak and seemed to be better from the previous year. We are finally putting a legitimate, playoff team on the court and we need to play up to our potential this year.

One question mark out there is LA. Man, I watched that conversation with Phil Jackson and I just dont know about LA. Are they going to be the disfunctional Lakers? Or are they going to be the Lakers just without Shaq. And will Kwame and their young big draft pick be able to bail them out at that position. We have all been saying all Kwame might need is a change of scenery to break out; kind of like Jermaine Oneil....
