What would you do if you were Donald Sterling/Elgin Baylor to fix the Clippers?

Point Guard is obviously a huge concern.
    Would you trade Maggette?
What free agnets would you go after?
    Would you move Cassell?

Pretty much any changes you would make post them here.

I wouldn't trade Maggette unless the Clippers somehow got a good deal out of it. Looking at the market and current situations any trade for a PG that involves Maggette would hurt the Clippers. I would like to see him stay since he should have a big season with him having the option (which he will most likely take) to become a FA at the end of the season. One thing is certain for me you don't trade Cassell at all, you can't trade away your leader. Even when hurt and not playing Cassell was a huge asset to the team as a leader. I don't see good things if he is traded. In terms of FA's the Clippers if they are not trading should just sign Knight, he is a quality assist guy that can help if healthy. Boykins wouldn't be bad either but I am concerned with the style of his play.

If I was the Clippers I would do either one of these:

    1) Trade for a quality PG (Ridnour, etc) without giving up Cassell, Mobley, Maggette, and Brand

    or

    2) Sign Knight or Boykins and sign either Diaz, Conroy, or Jordan.

I would welcome Bibby as our PG, but we would need to move Mobley to get him and that isnt happening.

I agree with Tucson. I wouldn't mind with Bibby but matching his contract is going to be a problem.

It's pretty hard for me to see the Clips getting anywhere in the longer run unless they really get lucky on a PG somehow. Obviously Cassell is old and Mobley is getting up there too. Livingston can't be counted on. So I have a hard time seeing how they improve much.

But I also think for historical reasons that blowing up the team and starting over is not an option because they'd instantly become a laughingstock again. I think they more or less need to get lucky. A player like Bibby if the Kings really play awful might be good, but i dunno if he's good enough to really get them over the top.

I would build around Brand, Maggette and Kaman These guys are young enough to invest long term in but also have plenty of experience to take you guys to the next level.

First off all they need to address their pg needs. I don't think Bibby is the answer there. I'm not sure if he needs a change of scenery but from what I saw last year he is past his prime. I would try to pry Charlie Bell off Milwaukee, he would be a great fit with the Clips.

You have to move Tim Thomas or Mobely, keeping both is redundant. Both are shooters who don't really bring much else to the table.

The frontline needs some depth as well.

Rebuilding is not an option for the franchise, the team has plenty of pieces to be a championship team.

Agreed, I dont think Bibby puts them over the top. Heck I dont think any move they make can put them over the top. They do need to make a move to make a run at the playoffs. PG is a major concern and if Kaman doesnt produce the Clippers are in a very difficult position. They have some bad contracts that would be nearly impossible to unload and Corey Maggette. The ideal situation would be to package Maggette with someone to upgrade any positions other than PF. However, the Clippers do not have any assets to package with Maggette to make a deal like that.

I think they need to sign Brevin Knight and hold onto Maggette. I cant see Maggette with the team past the deadline, so my guess is that they pick up a shooter or a draft pick for Maggette and move on. With no Livingston, the team doesnt have much of a future and they seriously need to think about rebuilding. Brand has an option so they either need to get him on board and try and add a few more pieces or they need to find out if Elton is planning on opting out and go from there.

How about they try and get Marbury... they'd have to include Maggette but Marbury's also an expiring contract and they might be able to foist a guy like Tim Thomas (again) off on Zeke.

That wouldnt be a bad move, but I cant imagine the Knicks taking Tim Thomas. The guy we need to move is Mobley, but that isnt going to happen.

In terms of signings one thing is for certain they need to sign someone asap. The wait is ridiculous and only hurting the Clippers.

No doubt, they need to lock of Brevin Knight before he gets away too.
