Apparently he's close to signing a 6 year deal to stay in Spain. There would be an option after the 2nd year of his contract.

I know the Warriors were very interested in him on draft night despite a crowded back court. On paper he sounds like the ideal compliment to Monta Ellis.

If you knew he'd come over and play this season what would you trade for him?

That's a big "if." Hypothetically speaking, I would give up Curry and Wright. I mean, I'd rather give Maggette and D. George, lol, but Curry+Wright is realistic. Why do this? Because, although Curry shows a lot of promise, Rubio shows star potential at the position we need it at most: PG. Curry shows good PG skills too, but he's also a scorer. Rubio just has that intangible "greatness" to his PG game. He's not a lock for the all-star team, but his natural ball handling and passing cannot be denied. And he's bigger than Curry, so he would be better defensively alongside Monta. Also, he would compliment Monta better, so Monta could score more (where Curry+Monta will be competing for shots).

However, realistically, I would never do this. Because Rubio and his agent seem way too full of himself, and just the fact that he's willing to cause this much trouble for the team that gave him their blessing in the NBA -- that's bad news. Let him go play in Spain. Big whoopty doo. He's acting like he's Jordan or something. He won't be missed.

I would trade Curry straight up for him, if we knew he'd actually play here. I said before the draft I'd take Rubio over Curry so I'd be a hypocrite to say differently now. Don't get me wrong, I like Curry, and Rubio is a bigger risk, but also has a higher upside IMO. Watch his game film, the passes he makes are simply ridiculous and so effortless. I haven't seen anyone with natural court vision like that for a long, long time, and at such a young age too. If there's even a small chance of getting "the next Steve Nash" I think you have to take that risk.

I have no idea what Minnesota would want for him though. Would they even want Curry with Flynn? Are they desperate enough to negotiate or happy to let him work it out? Maybe it would take a 3-way deal?

Pretty much anyone on the roster. Beans, Curry, Wright..whatever. Although trading Beans means it would have to be a bigger deal and I'd need some size coming back. The only exception is I MAY not trade Randolph. I'd do Monta.

There's a chance Rubio could be a legit star who makes others MUCH better. He could be the kind of guy you build around.

A backcourt of him and Monta could be really exciting but we would have to play a 2-3 every trip downcourt. Rubio has height but not the strength to guard 2s (and I don't think he'll get it). On the other hand, those 2 at the top of a zone could wreak havoc on the passing lanes.
