Well lets look at Milans campaign in this years champions league negotiated the group stage fairly comfortably,qualified as winners Last 16 against celtic....First leg at celtic park,milan come away with a socreless draw knowing things could have been worse.Celtic had afew chances and didnt take them second leg san siro....Venegoor of hessalink denied a stone wall penalty kick towards the end of 90 minutes which would have seen them through.Kaka scores in extra time,milan progress Quarter final,bayern munich....First leg ended 2-2 but milan again count themselves very fortunate,another penalty kick goes in their favour,when lucio was adjudged to have fouled kaka.Replays clearly showed contact with the ball and not kaka.Safe to say a decision that changed the whole complection of the tie. Semi Final,United....First leg beaten,second leg faced a side who in effect had their whole first choice back 4 missing.Credit to Milan for the manner in which they played in,but what a stroke of luck they had that night in regards to our team selection. Final,Liverpool....Liverpool had by far the better of the first half,though in fairness to milan no clear cut chances were created.However on the stroke of half time a deflected free kick gives them the lead. Europes all about circumstance and fortune,yes you need to be a decent side but to go with that you need the rub of the green.Too many people obsess over european football,yes its prestigious,yes its a great honor to win,but a conclusion for who the best side is it isnt.... I hope we win the champions league next season,but obsessing over it I wont be.
Well It just shows that Celtic were really unlucky 0-0 at Celtic Park and got defeated at San Siro 1-0 by Kaka's goal and JVOH was denied a stonewaller then Milan faced Bayern who they also drew. and they got defeated like Celtic did 3-2 at Old Trafford, At the San Siro Milan pummeled United 3-0. Now the point hear is Celtic are often over looked but look at our home record in the Champions League, Its up there in the top 5 and Our Away record is abismal. If Celtic are not classed on being a good team then Why did it take the Champions of Europe an extra 30 minutes to put us out? when they Eased past United in aggergate and past Bayern. Anyways back to the subject sorry that was on my mind for a while... Yeah Milan had a few favours in there way during there knockout stage run in the Champions League.. Should they have been in it due to the Serie A scandal? Anyway I would like to say we lasted the longest against the Champions of Europe If Milan didnt win it Celtic would have.
