    (great piece)

The Philadelphia 76ers are one of the feel-good stories of the NBA season, but the man who began the Process won’t be there to witness its fruition. Instead, Sam Hinkie is biding his time, watching ‘The Bachelor,’ attending the Sloan Conference, and considering whether to get back into a league that struggled to understand his team-building philosophies.

I wouldn't mind having him around if the Blazers ever decided they were gonna start over. I didn't think the NBA sending Colangelo was right, Hinkie was doing what his boss what wanted at the time. I could see why if your team hired Hinkie you'd immediately think well we're gonna have a really long 5+ years...

    I stopped reading at:

"Hinkie, who began his career with Bain & Company and has worked in private equity and venture capital"

Fuck Bain Capital and all the scandalous MFs that founded it...

Is Hinkie pictured here? That's him either to the right of Mitt or behind on the right.

I skimmed the article. Basically what he did in Philly by tanking worked and he didn't get the credit he deserved, and now sports business people think he is some sort of sports genius, but he's actually just a regular guy like everyone else. Boring. It doesn't take a genius to drive a tank.

Olshey lies that Allen has granted him 5-years. But he offers no Hinkie-like plan. He is the poor man's version of a Hinkie wannabe.

It hasn't actually worked yet. The players are amazing, but have a significant injury history - scarier than Oden's injury history. If they all stay healthy, great. Otherwise, they may have to go back into the tank.

Plus I see no praise worthy to a guy who drafted 3 players very high in the draft that missed most of if not all of their first year and managed a team that tanked for so many years. It would be near impossible to duplicate that method and get the same results
